Bashaud Breeland cited for marijuana possession

Rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland cited for marijuana possession

Redskins rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland was cited for possession of marijuana Monday night on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.

The incident took place the night before the Redskins left Richmond at the completion of training camp.

According to a statement issued by a VCU Police Department spokeswoman, at 10:40 p.m., Monday, a campus police officer issued Breeland, 22, a summons for simple possession of marijuana, which is a misdemeanor.

No further information was available because of the incident is pending adjudication.

A Redskins spokesman said, “we are aware of the incident and we will have no further comment.”

Reached by phone, Breeland declined to comment.

Drafted in the fourth round out of Clemson, the 5-foot-11, 197-pound Breeland is competing for a roster spot behind starting cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and David Amerson. He has drawn the praise of coaches because of his athleticism, high football IQ and physical style of play.

Unfortunately, the NFL tends to punish something as small as that more than they would for a player beating up a woman.

Too bad some of that “high football IQ” couldn't seep into his real life.

I agree it's crazy but everyone understand the rules. Breeland has been really good in camp at a need position. Let's hope the league does not slam him.

What a knucklehead. It's a stupid law, but it's still the law. You have to take your one chance at playing in the NFL more seriously.
