If you have a SHYTE offense/defense who cannot capitalize on it - it's not the punters fault. The punter should still be recognized for being great IF he's great.
You mentioned that a borderline team could be made or broken by field position, did you not? Well, I'm just here to say that looking at my own team -- not having done a comprehensive analysis of the NFL in general -- I really see nothing that leads me to believe that winning field position on kicking plays results in a team overachieving in the win column.

I've seen at least three teams in the last decade miss the playoffs by one game, and all three of 'em were certainly at or near the top of the league in either touchback percentage or punting.

years ago I took my little boy with me to a kick/pass/punt event that Guy was having at a car dealership in his hometown. With me, I brought my HOF mini football helmet that I had some autographs of some HOF players on it. I asked Mr. Guy to sign it and he replied " Are you sure ?" i asked him why he would ask me that and he said he didnt feel that he'd ever get in and didnt want to ruin the value of the helmet with his signature. I told him that i has no doubt that one day he'd get voted in and told him that i'd love to have his autogragh. That was 10 years ago and I'm so happy for Ray and his well deserving induction.

Are you a lawyer? Or do you just not give any ground? You don't study the statistics but you have this real certain feeling? This argument leaves me damned if I do and damned if I don't. Nice work. I'll stick to my original points.

Cliff Branch should get in if Frekin Lynn Swann is in- Cliff Branch numbers were far superior to anything Swann ever did

Like was mentioned- Kevin Greene and Charles Haley getting snubbed is a travesty

Lynn Swann should not be in the HOF. That was a joke of a vote. Sickening.
    I promise I won't do it again

But maybe field position is what gets those teams in the discussion as being borderline. So if they didn't have great punting, they might be missing by two games. I mean, I wouldn't have thought of the Dolphins as borderline unless it's a really thick line or a mediocre year for the AFC.

I ****ing hate the Patriots, but when Adam Vinatieri's name comes up, I'll think he belongs.

    Yep, A.V. belongs.
