Multiple Arab nations joined forces with the Palestinians to declare war on Israel and forcibly remove the Jews from the region. Are you suggesting that a country the size of, and with the population of, Israel should be able to defend itself in multiple wars from attacks by multiple surrounding countries?

Why exactly do you have an issue with Britain or the U.S. (mostly indirectly) aiding Israel in the 3 wars it fought, but you don't seem to have any issue with Egypt, Jordan, Syria, etc. supplying direct aid (i.e. fighting forces) to the Palestinians? The Arabs largely used Soviet weapons, and in the Six-Day war, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia also provided weapons and aircraft to the Arabs.

So how is the "primary issue" the west's "favoritism" towards Jews. Why isn't the issue the multiple wars that multiple Arab nations started and lost? How many Arab nations attacking Israel without the west's support would be proper in your mind?

Rockets continued to hit Israel, with most intercepted or falling harmlessly in open areas, though one projectile struck a dining hall in a farming community near Gaza, not far from where a 4-year-old Israeli boy was killed Friday.

Its on the front page of most newspapers and CNN.com, but its not the lead story.

On a related note, Hamas now admits the kidnappers of the Israeli teens were their people, but it wasn't sponsored by Hamas leadership. Not really new news but at least they admitted what they formerly denied.

To be clear the Israelis started both the 56 war and the 67 war and made huge land grabs because of those wars, including seizing Gaza.

That isn't to say that the Arabs were blameless certainly. Nasser, in particular, was being far too hostile. But the notion that the Israelis were innocent victims is misleading.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - Kung fu Monkey

Yeah, to the same extent the Ukraine would be "starting a war" if it attacked the Russian troops massing on its border.

The aggression was clearly on the side of the Arabs. The Jews were happy to have a homeland in the aftermath of WWII. The Arabs were extremely upset about the thought of sharing "their" land with anyone, least of all Jews. Hell, the Arabs attacked Israel before the ink was even dry on the paperwork establishing Israel. If the wars were truly "land grabs" by Israel, why didn't Israel kick all of the Arabs out, and keep all the land for themselves, as the Arabs surely would have done?

As someone posted earlier, Israel often takes too hard a line in response these days, probably due largely to the "never again" mantra, but the Arabs were clearly the aggressors in the multiple full scale conflicts fought in the region.

If you're know you're going to be attacked, particularly if you are surrounded or outnumbered by threatening forces, the best move is to hit first, hit fast and hit hard. I don't blame Israel for either of the previous real wars for that reason. And I agree they're being very heavy handed in their response in this latest dust up with Hamas.

In 1967 the Israeli's certainly launched a pre-emptive strike but tensions were quite high due to Nassar actions.

in 1956 Israel jumped on the bandwagon with France and Great Britain after Egypt seized the Suez Canal. No excuses there.
