A number of us were born closer to the start of WW1 than to the present day. (Since the event was 100 years ago, the age cut-off for that is 50.)

Rear Admiral was born closer to the start of the Civil War than to today, and so perhaps also to the invention of metal-sided warships.

The honey thing isn't surprising. It's an excellent antimicrobial. It's used in ERs in New Zealand as an antiseptic. Also good for your stomach too.

Of course most honey in stores isn't actual honey, merely corn syrup.
"There were many ways of not burdening one's conscience, of shunning responsibility, looking away, keeping mum. When the unspeakable truth of the holocaust then became known at the end of the war, all too many of us claimed that they had not known anything about it or even suspected anything."

Anyhow, a lot of these make sense if you stop to do a bit of math. Cleopatra was a contemporary of Caesar, so that's like 30 or 40 or 50BC even if we don't recall the exact year. The Great Pyramid was 2200 or 2300 or 2600 BC or whatever, but in any case well over 2000. If you know your history that well, the rest is simple arithmetic.

The old USSR had 1/6 of the Earth's land surface; most of that went with Russia. Surface area varies with the square of the radius/square of the diameter. Pluto's diameter is less than a third of the Earth's? From there the math is simple.

Well, of course they make sense if you do the math
