Seahawks have reportedly released DE-Chris Clemons

    http://www.fieldgulls.com/2013-nfl-o...ons-per-report

This was potentially expected and purely a salary cap move as Clem served the team well but you can't pay everyone.

The move frees up approximately $3.5 million in cap I believe.

Maybe they are close to signing Jared Allen?

I believe it's around $7 million in cap savings with the release of Clem which puts us around $17 million under the cap after the Bennett signing.

    As for Jared Allen:

Seahawks sign FA WR- Taylor Price

    http://www.fieldgulls.com/2013-nfl-o...r-taylor-price

Here's an excerpt from the above article:

Price was a 3rd round pick by the Patriots out of small school Ohio in the 2010 Draft - and per Ian Rapoport, was slotted just below Golden Tate on Seattle's board.

It makes sense. Price is a physical freak of nature -- at 6'0, 206, he ran the 40 in 4.40 seconds with a blistering 1.50 10-yard split, had a 37" vert and a 6.82 3-cone drill. He was highly productive in Ohio's run-first offense and set their career receiving record there.
Seems like a kick the tires type signing with some potentially high upside.

Michael Bowie proved he was amost as good last season, without the penalties. He'll be stronger next season with more reps and a 2nd camp.

Clearly now OT is draft need, as is WR.

I think MacDonald is the biggest loss for us. Tate and Breno are quality players but we should be able to replace them relatively easily.

McDonald did have a tremendous season last year but in terms of his history it was really out of pattern and may have come from the strength of the edge pursuit. I'm wondering now if Hill can step up and show the interior rush ability he had in college after what was essentially a redshirt and injury limited 1st season. If so the DLine won't lose much.

Of interest is the team has talked about a few outside DLine FAs, Hatcher, Mitchell, Allen and several others but few if any substantive discussions have been had with several of these players. The focus of the team has been mostly upon re-signing our own where possible so far and Js appears to be letting the pass rusher market settle down after the initial burst a frenetic activity before making his moves. This was his pattern last year, and is true to the GB model. They haven't gone after anyone yet. So far the team hasn't overpaid for anyone and were prepared to let a few guys walk when their price exceeded their worth to the team's ability to pay in light of their cap modelling.

Not meaning to throw the gauntlet down to the "defense wins championships" crowd, but I think Tate will be a lot harder to replace when you consider his elite level RAC ability, hands, and body control. He had something like 144 out of 149 catchable balls over the past 3 years, best percentage in the NFL. Also most YAC per reception in the NFL this past year. He also made big contributions as a punt returner. That is going to be very tough to replace with 1 roster spot.
    U MAD BRO??
