I do not understand the Barkley pick unless CK intends to give him a shot to win the starting job. 5 games into his rookie season with two QB's ahead of him yet to be sorted out -- it's not alarming. I wouldn't expect to see Barkley (unless he's an injury replacement) in games until the Eagles are out of it, numerically, which may not be till week 16 in this division. Or unless the play of Foles and Vick is so putrid the Eagles couldn't do worse with Barkley.
We must remember Rogers, and how long a tutelage he had - which paid off Big Time. We see many rookies making an impact at QB these days, but then we see them level off and suck (like Sanchez).
Think his arm is weak, got to right around the 2 min 50 sec mark of this highlight film he throws the ball from his own 10 yard line all the way to the 30 yard line... Perhaps Chip knew he got a steal with his arm still recovering from surgery.
Actually it was from the 9 yard line to the 26 yard line ....about 65-66 yards in the air and was like a dart. Of course there was air under it how else will you throw it 65 yards but when I look at the trajectory it was lower than Foles long TD passes and they were 20 and 30 yards shorter.
They only gave up a 7th round pick to take Barkley in the 4th round
I don't think that necessarily means anything regarding how they view Barkley other than that he was good value at that point in the draft
Even if they only see his upside as a very good backup QB, that's worth a 4th round pick
That's my thoughts. Personally, i'd rather use FA for a backup QB, and use even a 4th round pick for other needs - especially with how our defense looks! But i'm not upset about it. That said, I just don't see Barkley as anymore more than a backup. I think "IF" he gets an opportunity - we will end up making excuses, just like Kolb. Opportunities don't come along often, and when they do, you have to make the most of them or get left behind. I think Foles has a better shot than Barkley personally. I definitely was not impressed with some of his comments last off-season. He seemed to throw the other QB's under the bus, and came across as a very self centered individual (much like Kolb). I don't think he will get others to ralley around him, and won't have the locker room. And I don't see anything that "wows." I'd rather just use the 1st on a franchise qb next year, and hope we can get something out of one of the qb's we have now (maybe 2 of them).
