Issue is, that if Ponder is starting, it is because the staff won't admit he is a bust. If that is the case, do they still draft a QB with a top-5 pick?
No they don't because they, the coaching staff who wouldn't give up on Ponder will no longer be here. So yes, they draft a top QB next year unless they keep Cassel the starter and he kills it causing them to draft to low to get a franchise QB while also giving them confidence that Cassel can be the guy in the near term.
Will the staff still be here if we're drafting in the top five? It'd be two top five drafts in three years which makes last year look more flukey and due to a superhuman effort from Peterson.
It's not looking flukey, it was flukey. In the same way last year's Wolves couldn't catch a break that didn't involve Love's hand the Vikings caught every break possible along with AD's ridiculous year.
Last year they weren't as talented as their record, this year they are more talented than their record but still not very good.
Leslie just said Ponder will start the next game, as he is "our quarterback". I suspect it will be the last start he makes here and Leslie might just get himself fired.
...that's ridiculous. There is absolutely no question that Cassel looked significantly better than Ponder had.
Won't matter much though. The next game is a home game and, while I do not agree with how the Viking fan's treat players most of the time, they will boo the living hell out of Ponder and essentially riot if Frazier doesn't make the switch and Ponder looks as bad as expected.
