Well with the Iron Man Championship quickly approaching and all of Hines Ward's hard work up until this point I figured it would be as good as time as ever to talk about it. The Iron Man Championship will be held on October 12th somewhere in Hawaii. Ward is with Team Chocolate Milk or something like that. Back in June Hines Ward completed his 1st Triathlon/Half Iron Man if a shade under 6 hours which according to most was a surprise. Still Biking 112 mile and running 26.2 miles versus biking 56 miles and only running 13.1 miles just isn't close to the same. Especially considering it's now after swimming 2.6 miles in the waves of the Pacific ocean versus only 1.2 miles in Clinton Lake.
I'll be honest as great an athlete and as hard as I'm sure Ward busted his a$$ to prepare I just don't see him finishing the Iron man in his 1st year training for it. Not after it taking almost 6 hours to complete half an Iron Man under easier conditions. It's much easier swimming in a lake without much resistance and in the Kansas heat versus what he'll be up against in Hawaii. Some people train for years before attempting an Iron Man competition and Hines is trying to do it with less than a year of training and hardly no experience. I would have like to at least see him run a complete Marathon first to see how he held up against that. Anyway what do you guys think? Do you expect him to complete the race? How long is it going to take him?
