I vote we change Ws to Quality Starts next year. This would be comical if it wasn't giving me ulcers.

Not sure if I'm serious about the vote.

I don't think I'd vote to take way Wins, but I do like the QS category and wouldn't be against adding it and than adding 1 Hitting category to make it a 6x6 Roto league. We already use OBP so either the OPS or SLG% category would seem the category to add to Hitting.

I despise quality starts. It's completely arbitrary. Is giving up 3 ERs over 6 innings really a quality start? I don't think so. That's a 4.50 ERA. Who would ever consider that to be a quality start?

We all have had pitchers lose wins because of closers blowing saves. I had a one-week stretch where my pitchers were in line to win a ballgame on 7 occasions but only to get a ND because the bullpen blew it. That included a 6- or 7-run lead in one game.

If we were to add a pitching stat, I would rather add "Holds" to give relievers more importance in our league. The other hitting stat that would make sense is Ks. SLG% doesn't make much sense since we have HRs, which contributes a lot to SLG%.

But anyway, I like the current categories. They are simple to understand. OBP is the only addition since it is a better indicator of a hitter's ability than average.

I think kidder has the biggest gripe about that anyway.

No he didn't. He only used 2/3 of his innings pitched. If he had stayed in it, he would have won wins or at least finished a close 2nd.

I agree QS is completely arbitrary. Why is 5.2 with no ER and 9 innings with 4 ER not a quality start while 6 with 3 ER is? But at least you're dependent on the guy you drafted and not dependent on run support and bullpens. Wins for pitchers are a worthless stat. But I know I've probably been the beneficiary of wins in bad starts in past years and I was just venting anyway. I'm all for keeping this simple.

For the most part I have no issues with how it is now. The only thing that drives me crazy is that a SP who can pitch 5 or 6 strong innings is more valuable than a SP that goes deep into games because you get more starts for the amount of innings the pitches are limited too. So the best SPs really aren't the best pitchers to have in this league.

If you remove about 150 IP for the innings your Closers pitch during the year your SP have 1350 Innings. So if you have Pitchers that average 7.5 innings pitched every start you get (1350/7.5) 180 starts and 180 chances for Wins. However if you have SPs that are very good for an average of 5.5 innings per start you end up with (1350/5.5) 65 more starts (245 starts total). That puts people with aces at a disadvantage in the Win category.

I understand why we have an innings limit because people would stream pitchers. Still I wish we could find a way where the best pitchers would be more valuable then the starters only going 5 innings. Actually come to think of it removing Wins would fix the problem. I'm not saying we should do that, but it would fix the problem.

Great pitchers will still help you out in 3 other categories (Ks, ERA, WHIP). Meanwhile, while a marginal pitcher can rack Ws, he likely won't help you much in the other 3 categories. It all balances out. It's too narrow-minded to be just looking at Ws.
