    Trouble with teachers

Armed teachers, unions opposing school reform ...

    http://www.economist.com/blogs/econo...revolting-axes

TEACHERSí strikes normally involve nothing more extreme than an orderly march and some well-punctuated placards. In Mexico they are more serious affairs. In recent days teachers have gone berserk in the south-western state of Guerrero, setting fires and attacking the offices of political parties with home-made weapons. ...

The protests come as Mexicoís new government tries to push through a big education reform. It makes what, in most countries, would be considered fairly modest proposals: that teachers should no longer be allowed to sell their jobs or pass them on to their children, for instance. ...

Many thought that the government had struck a mortal blow against troublesome teachers on February 26th, when the unionís leader, Elba Esther Gordillo, whose glare turns politicians into timid schoolboys, was arrested on charges of embezzlement and money laundering. Prosecutors say she stole more than $2 billion pesos ($159m) of union funds to spend on clothes, property and cosmetic surgery.
However, the article makes no mention of mojitos.
APF doesn't come in screaming at others about how stupid they are. APF doesn't spam NST with the same tired topic 30 times a month. APF doesn't link to some kook in his mom's basement telling you how to, "Be afraid. Be very afraid" of the world falling down around you. And, when APF is proven wrong, he acknowledges he made a mistake and moves on, rather than harping about "sheeple."
