With that being said, I agree with Muddler. Too many picks on the O-line recently to keep grabbing lineman. There is nothing wrong with drafting to need if the player warrants it. Troy Edwards did not warrant where he was taken. Jarvis Jones would warrant being taken at #17, as long as he passes the physical and we need someone like him.
True. It's not an all or nothing kind of thing. I wouldn't take a QB this year in round one if he was the best guy, but if he was that much better than the rest of the talent a trade could be made.

but along the OL we DO need help....our run game sucked and we've seen Roethlisberger hammered on more than one occasion.

Warmack IMO can help in both areas....run game and keeping Roethlisberger upright.

who do we have for depth along the OL???

Beachum and that's it as far as guys under contract go IIRC. Our starters are set per Tomlin as of now. Given that they did try and make a play at Jake Long lets me know they aren't completely fond of the idea of having Gilbert start at LT. I don't think any sane Steeler fan is either.

Our G spots are set with Foster and Double D. Now, would i plug Warmack in over Foster from day 1? Absolutely. Jonathan Cooper as well i personally believe. Foster is a solid ho-hum guy. Good to have around, dependable/durable, but he could be upgraded.

I just see so many needs in key areas.....it's hard to center on one area.

    I hear ya Miz.

I wouldn't be sad if they took a WR.
I wouldn't be sad if they took an OLB
    I wouldn't be sad if they took a S.
I wouldn't be sad if they took a CB.
    I wouldn't be sad if they took a T.

there is still time left on FA and chit can happen between now and the Draft...

having Foster as the backup all along the OL is a good thing.

if Warmack is there and he is the top player on their rankings....TAKE HIM.

Couldn't disagree more. If you draft for need, to fill holes, eventually it catches up to you because you end up taking lesser players. Positions change too quickly in the NFL. We're set here one year and the next we're thin. We're thin here one year and the next we're stacked. BPA is hands down the only way to draft without despiration. Need is a good tiebreaker, that's all. And drafting BPA doesn't mean that you can't weight the positions at different levels either.

We are still a ways out from the draft and there are still a few more moves that may happen that will shore up what we do in the draft. If we'd lose Sanders then WR will become a huge need and likely addressed more than once in the draft. There is no guarantee we will resign any more OL, Legursky is not a given. I'd like to see him back due to his ability to backup at center but only for the right price, can't afford to overpay our backups. We have two good young OTs, but neither has enough experience yet to be considered a lock at either LT or RT. I am surprised by the rumor (if that is what it is) that we looked at Long or tried to make an offer, not sure what money is there for that and if there is that kind of money why didn't we keep K. Lewis.

Other than QB, C, K, P there is no position that should be overlooked at the #17 spot. It will depend alot on who is taken prior to our pick. There could be a run on OL, or DL, pushing a top player down to us. Last year no one thought DeCastro had a chance to fall to us. As far as Womack/Cooper. I'd be fine with either if they are the BPA at our pick. Womack is a beast, Cooper though might fit us much better in where our OL blocking scheme is heading, at least that's the word at this point.

The absolute one guy I want in the draft Dion Jordan. Yes I know there is nothing that is going to happen in this draft for him to be a Steeler other than a massive trade up and with our needs at present losing a number of draft picks is not the best idea so I am accepting he will not be a Steeler. Jarvis Jones is the other, if he is deemed healthy as perfect a pick as he could be for us he won't be there.

That said there are still others who might fall to us. It is unlikely both Womack and Cooper as Gs will both be gone and both would be great pickups.

Unless there is a run on OT, Lane Johnson could possibly be around our pick though I think he will go earlier, if not he is capable of coming in and starting day 1 which would help us depth wise as well after competition with Gilbert and Adams pushing one to depth and Beachum to depth at G.

With the loss of Lewis we could easily take a look at Rhodes or Trufant at the draft spot, though I think we can find a solid CB in Rd 2.
At WR we might have the shot at the top available WR in the draft whether it be Patterson or Allen depending at who tops the FO's list.

Guys I'd prefer to pass on would be DL Richardson (doesn't fit our scheme), Werner (also doesn't fit) Vacarro (overrated equal or better can be had later), T Fluker (big, slow).

I'd like to see us hit the front 7 but it's had to say who will be there. I'm figuring Floyd, Jordan, Jones, Ansah, Lotulelei will be gone with Ansah, Lotulelei having outside shots at slipping, all a preference thing more or less. That would like leave Mingo, Moore, Richardson, J. Williams, S. Williams, Werner, Hunt, Te'o, Ogletree, Minter. Some of those should fall into the 2nd, some don't fit out scheme, some have poor combines. Basically it'll be a FO preference thing out of this group and hopefully they fully do their homework.

As far as RB I don't see anyone worthy of 1st round pick, no one stands out that much more than anyone else and you can find a great running back now later in the draft.

As much as I like Eifert at TE especially with Miller down for who knows how long, we now have 6 TEs on the roster and they seem high on Paulson.

BPA is the way to go in this draft, but at some point we will have to address specific positions.
"Once I start, they'll be no stopping me."
