Well, here's one little vote for Assassin's Creed.

It is one strange, beautiful series. I'm surprised it gets so much hype despite its flaws honestly because I doubt there's too many people that are just willing to look past those flaws.

The good: You are basically an unstoppable assassin with a particular set of skills ... fighting against the templars. Each game takes you deeper into this giant conspiracy trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Lots of sneaking around. Lots of side quests. Huge open world sandboxes. Lots of guards chasing you all over Christendom. Lots of puzzles and parkour like free running through giant structures like churches and the like. I love it. And I'm not Asian.

Assassin Creed III introduces ship warfare and it's absolutely one of the most exciting and fun things to do in any game that's I've played. Unfortunately it's still on rails at this point. I simply can't wait until Assassin's Creed IV which is supposed to be you're basically a pirate, and hopefully you're a free-roaming pirate bc I'm telling you, this is the most compelling thing I've done in videogaming.

The Bad: So it hits this problem that a lot of the other free roam, sandboxes have ... so you're in the middle of this incredibly immersive story etc., you've been told by General Washington himself that you need to go defend the fort or the British will win the war!!! And so you head off for the fort but on the way you see a bunch of deer and decide to go hunting, then you see a feather up in a tree nearby and need to go snag it, then you forgot you wanted to go back to your homestead and build that up ... then go on a few naval missions ... so seemingly months later you finally get back on track and go to the fort, which, thankfully, the British haven't attacked yet.

This leads to stupid moments like me stalking a templar captain inside his fort for an hour, killing off archers etc so they can't see me, dropping down behind the mother****** and realizing I'm surrounded so I just plunge my dagger into his face, his blood splatters all over his guards and I get ready to run like hell!! when the screen kind of just flashes and all of the guards just walk away. I hate that.

The Ugly: Some of the freerunning has terrible detection or something which makes you get stuck in really stupid positions while trying to escape guards and stuff, which is really frustrating because it wasn't this way before in the earlier Assassin Creed stories.

Also, riding a horse is so incredibly stupid bc they get stuck on everything.

Also, the side missions are a complete waste of time.

And yet, besides all these flaws, I still really enjoy this entire series. Great story, great puzzles, insane graphics, loads of pseudo-history and weapons, etc etc.

    Also skip AC1.

In some of the free-roaming games I've played like Skyrim and Fallout it is definitely wierd to accidentally run into a quest, finish it and then get the quest later.

At least Skyrim will let you just say "Oh that? Already done. Give me the cashola!"

Will likely get back to Oblivion at some point, but it was getting repetitive to me with the "Find cave, clear cave, find fort, clear fort, etc..." :)
Oblivion does get repetitive when you have to clean up the oblivion gates.

If you are on a PC do NOT avoid the hard works of the modding community. Same with Skyrim. Some oustanding mods out there that will enhance your game tremendously.

I'm taking back what I said about the redeeming value of Assassin's Creed III. I enjoyed some of this adventure but that doesn't excuse how they ended the game. So you play what is essentially a tutorial for about 60% of the game, it hardly references anything in the overall continuum, and then it just ends abruptly and terribly AND THEN you're forced to watch over 20 minutes of credits.

    Goddamn it.

Anway, the Assassin's Creed II Trilogy was MUCH better than Assassin's Creed III.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. The graphics are not great but man, what great boss fights.
