Wanted to bump this threads as my trial AVG is about to expire. If I download Microsoft Security Essentials can I run that with AVG or do I need to remove AVG? Also it appears that MSE changes the interface. Can I still run Firefox?
Running it with AVG antivirus would be redundant, so uninstall AVG.
What interface is changed?
As for your second question, not sure I follow, but using Firefox is fine.
Alright, anti-virus/anti-malware apps will run just fine with FireFox, IE, Chrome whatever.
Second, never run two ANTI-VIRUS apps at the same time. So, no Avast AND AVG. Or MSE and AVG, etc. Malwarebytes is NOT anti-virus, so you can (and should) use it along with A/V.
I was reading about MSE and thought that it said it changed the total look, maybe I'm just being an idiot. Again.
Not being familiar w/ something doesn't make you an idiot, dude. ;)
Nah, you're good. It just runs quietly in the background like any other virus protection (and without the popup adds to go "full" that a lot of the free ones had last time I used one). I haven't used AVG for a long time so maybe they have some "trusted website" overlay onto firefox (which are pretty worthless IMO), but everything should be the same.
For work, we use IE...but I installed firefox and ad block for browsing the net.
It was a pain in the ass because I couldn't do a clean reinstall even if I had the admin pwd...I needed other company created software to be installed...so I lost half a day of work while IT did it for me....also lost about one month of email that I stored locally without back up....
We use MSE at work....but I no longer browse KFFL using my work laptop...Can't trust KFFL because they need to sell ad space....
