    Hospital Fees

Well here's why you should never pay your hospital bill without fighting the charges. Seriously $39 every time they prick your finger to check you blood glucose. Wait until you see what they charge for those little white paper cups that hold ketchup at to dunk your fries and at the hospital they hold pills. It's pretty ridiculous they're a loud to get away for this type of shady practice.

We all know they are like this but I had a situation recently that makes me want to expose the hospital. One of my closest friends has been out of work for a long time and has no health coverage. She had been experience severe issues and finally went to a hospital in Northern Virginia.

Once there she was branded as uninsured and received literally no care. After a few tests she was left alone with a crazy roommate. She literally had to chase the doctor down the hall who asked her in an annoyed tone what she wanted. Asking for the test results he told her she had an infection and to take the antibiotics he prescribed. Then they dismissed her.

A few weeks later she moved to Maryland to obtain Medicade coverage, went to another hospital and learned that she has advanced Stage 4 breast cancer.

The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach.

The entire cost structure of hospitals must be revised. Sure, you pay a shiznitload for somebody to prick your finger, but remember, you are paying for the expertise of the person doing the pricking, the examinations that person had to pass, the lights in the room, the seat you are in, the heat in the building, the lights, the electrician on call, the trash pickup....it is the entire facility and everything that goes into running it that must be paid for, not just a prick on the finger.

To boil it down to just some bozo pricking you finger, well, that is just ignorant.

To some degree you're correct, but you must admit that costs are out of control, or at the very least, un-sustainable.... Now, is that because of the cost of the special light? Or is it more because doctors need to get out from under their education loans and pay for their damned malpractice insurance? I have no idea, but the entire system has basically become one where doctors and hospitals are trying to squeeze every last dollar from where ever they can.... (Pushing certain pharmaceuticals is a common method for getting some extra $$$ for instance.).

Sad thing is that there is no way we're ever going to have a SERIOUS discussion about what is actually broken in the medical field. All we're doing is going broke trying to figure out how to pay the asking price.

yeah, overhead costs occur in every purchase of a product or service, but the healthcare overhead seems (seems) a bit - high and non-competetive [ monopoly].

Just think of a co-pay to see a doc. The insurance I use has a flat fee whether I see a skunk doctor in an alley in Camden NJ or a penthouse office in Philly. Overhead has to differ, right?

The worst part about hospitals is how they are killing people via over medication. Thank God my mom knew enough to save my grandpas life. They had him tripping his balls off on morphine+++. My Aunts mother was not so lucky, just last week.

It's tough for everyone when systems like healthcare are built up around some poor assumptions and locked into place by the financial structure. Fixing it, really actually fixing it, instead of band-aiding over the symptoms just doesn't seem realistic and there are billions of dollars wrapped up into keeping it that way.
