Ok. Just checking. Yes they are absolutely looking for ways to control guns. The idea that since the country has been flooded with guns over the past 20 years due to misguided groups, doesn't mean we need to throw our arms up Raid is right. In the 50's no one thought tobacco use would be like it is today. In the 1800's gun use was widespread and that was changed. There are short and long term goals worth pursuing.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean that a realistic outlook on what needs to be done should be used as a get out of jail free card for anyone trying to use this tragedy as a means to further their political agenda. We need to start somewhere. How about we start with things that would really make a difference and leave the politics behind?
People want guns under control because ultimately the current state of guns in America makes the US a less safe place to live.

I think they are two different issues also. People are always going to shoot each other. Somehow I'd like to see if they can reduce the workplace/school mass shootings.

Then they should seek to control things that will help the situation.

Actually our violent crime rates and overall homicide rates are near all-time lows.

Why are liberals all worked up again, remind me?

The data point to a persistent perception gap among Americans. Despite strong evidence of crime dropping over recent decades, the public sees the reverse. "Recent Gallup polls have found that citizens overwhelmingly feel crime is going up even though it is not," says Professor Fox. "This is because of the growth of crime shows and the way that TV spotlights the emotional. One case of a random, horrific shooting shown repeatedly on TV has more visceral effect than all the statistics printed in a newspaper."

now they're attacking any type of additional background checks because "it won't do nothin." Unbelievable.
But it still goes back to political will.
    I promise I won't do it again
