Now his ex-gf (baby momma) has been granted a temporary restraining order against Titus.

He apparently was making some very frieghtening comments about understanding why OJ killed his ex-wife.

I'm confused. Are you implying that a person with a chemical imbalance of some sort should know and completely understand the difference between taking meds and not?

As good and simple as that sounds, it don't really work that way.

I think he was saying when your son is on a crime bender and tells you he doesn't know whats going on, you aren't likely to get a more blatant red flag that an immediate intervention is needed.

I understand that I am ignorant on the subject. But it seems to me if all these bad things are happening, and he is telling his dad how he doesn't understand it and this is not who he is, then it shouldn't take a lot of convincing to get him to understand that off the meds things like this happen. I also find it hard to believe that whatever he feels on the meds is as bad as how he feels, and what he does, off them.

It wouldn't take a lot of convincing - assuming that he's a perfectly rational person, which is the crux of the problem - meds or not. Speaking as someone who had a very mild (and presumably much milder) issue with meds and coping, I can confirm that at least for one person, it's really tough to accept that you can only cope with reality with the help of drugs. I chose to stop taking anti-depressants because I didn't really trust my new doctor and felt that he was kinda trying to push them on me since my meds were supposed to be a temporary solution to help me adjust and we differed in opinions on how temporary that meant. That was nearly twenty years ago and I'd like to think that I came out ok, but I can understand how somebody in a similar problem - or more likely, worse - can wind up completely screwing up their life.

One of my two best friends in the world is SEVERLY bi-polar. He is old enough and has dealt with the consequences often enough to know what happens when he goes off his meds. He still does it occasionally.

Med #1 is what he usually takes. I never remember the name of it, but it works very well for him. It completely takes care of his problem and keeps him level and has almost no side effects. Just one side effect really. But that one side effect is that his dick doesn't work when he is taking those pills. Hard choice to make. Hard choice to live with. Hard for your wife to live with. Harder for your girlfriend to understand and accept. So sometimes he takes...

Med #2. This one turns him into a zombie. Gets rid of the lows, but also gets rid of the highs. His dick does work with this one, but he really feels no joy from the act. This is what he takes when he is first going back on his meds, or when he starts to feel himself getting moody or something while on his other meds. Or sometimes he takes it for his anniversary or his wifes birthday or something. Most often though...

Med #3 & #4 - Weed and Cocaine - self medication style. When he can't bear to be on meds any more, or really wants to have a nice weekend with his wife or something he goes off meds completely, but he says it is really easy to convince yourself, especially the first couple days that you don't need meds and that you will be fine. Which he says is the first sign that he needs to get back on his meds asap. But if he went off them for a reason, sometimes as dumb as he wants to have a couple beers at a tailgate for homecoming or something, and he can't drink on his real meds, so he tries to self medicate. He knows it does a ****ty job, but even me who hates weed, and doesn't really want to be around people at this stage of my life who are smoking and railing, even i will admit he is 100x better self medicating than the dozen or so times I have seen him just stop taking meds. I can tell right away, and I'll ask him, he'll admit to it. I'll tell him he needs to get back on them, he'll look at me funny, and ask if I really think so. I look in his eyes and tell him to trust me that he absolutely needs to, and that is the end of it.

Titus is younger and dumber, a pampered athlete who nobody said no to. He just hasn't been dealing with it long enough to know that he can't **** around with this stuff. But none of that excuses him for being a dumbass.

There's multiple stages/plateaus of Bi polar and I haven't heard anyone with an official diagnosis. When and who diagnosed him. When I want to cut off my big toe, I'm not coming here to find advice.

In other words, not many Psychiatric Doctors roaming this site and if they were they wouldn't have a clue to what's bothering Titus .

It is no doubt a confusing subject. I can only speak for myself when I say that I understand him, especially at his age. I cannot explain it better than anyone else, but I have done the same thing before and I don't really know why I did when the answer, or partial answer, is very simple.

The thing that helped me the most was by far, marijuana. Ironically enough, it also led to legal problems. That used to make me irate.

Detroit writers have tweeted that he is known to be bipolar and his dad said he was prescribed Seroquel or however you spell it.

Thanks, didn't see that here and was wondering if the kid has actually been seen by a doctor or received treatment.

Sounds just like one of my friends. He tends to like using alcohol and cocaine when he's off his meds and it turns him into a whack job. I think whatever med #1 is is what he ends up going on.

This. In some way they might feel more "like themselves" wacky without the meds...

This kid is really messed up and seems intent on his own destruction. I really hope he gets some help:
