Vick makes 7+ million... Foles makes 480,000... 480,000 fits better on the bench...
Because of the money difference, if Foles looks nearly as good as Vick and you have another competent QB on the roster (say via the draft), you cut Vick before the season starts and save $3-7M. Vick's salary is a detriment to his employment future.

3.5 million is in place of the 3 million dollar roster bonus so he got $500,000 more. According to this Vick has to start 90% of the snaps to get any real money from this deal. If Vick wins the job and starts 90% of the games I have not problem paying him the money.
"Breer reported Monday night, via a source who's seen the terms of Vick's contract, that Vick will receive a $3.5 million signing bonus; $3.5 million in base salary; $500,000 in roster bonuses; $1.5 million if he plays 90 percent of the Eagles' snaps and $1 million if the Eagles win the Super Bowl and he plays."

The devil is in the details I would guess. Reportedly, the previous contract only gave the $3M signing bonus if another team failed to pay him that amount. I am not clear if he got the $3M immediately and would have to pay it back under that scenario, or if the amount is held until later.
Now the $3.5M is only 500,000 more, but I don't know if the same condition exists?
If they can still cut him before the season starts and still potentially re-coup the $3M, then it strikes me as a pretty team friendly deal. Basically paying him $500K to participate in the offseason program, training camp and preseason and then they have a decision point.
If the $3.5M is fully guaranteed or unlikely to be re-couped (why would Vick not settle for a lesser contract, given that he would receive the difference between $1M vet minimum and the $3M?) then it kind of translates into Vick being paid $3.5M for the offseason, which is a pretty good deal for him.
Either way it seems unlikely that Vick will earn less than $4.5M this year and most likely at least $7M. Which is at the very high end of what a backup would make or very low end of a starter, so it strikes me as a better deal for Vick than the team.
I saw a really good break down yesterday but I can't find it any longer. A lot of it is based on percentage of playing time. He isn't 90% or bust. No reason we shouldn't let him try to make the team. From what I have heard he really wants to play in Kelly's system. Maybe that is why he took this deal.
i doubt he gets a significantly better deal anywhere else give the past 2 years of play and injuries. I like the competition.
Vick blows, and is a complete buffoon...what qb comes out and says he is gonna rush for 1000 yards??? What a dope! Get rid of this clown already! If they keep Vick it tells me one thing, they are satisfied just filling the seats, that is it!
