    Cap Space

Read these two articles and then help me out:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-in-cap-space/

    http://www.itsalloverfatman.com/bron...-cap-room-lard

The first shows that we have $14.1 MM to carry over from this year. The FM article says that is all the wiggle room we have.

By now I'm totally confused! If we have the 4th most carry over from last year of the 32 teams, it seems to me we aren't in big trouble. Help out an idiot today (me) so he is less stupid tomorrow!

Because of the year - the Broncos had - a lot of guys made their incentives and that adds to the costs.

Also - If I remember right - Manning goes from $18 Million to $20 Million.

The good news is the Bronco's structure is very cash and carry meaning - cutting guys doens't create dead money like it did in the past. It does endanger guys like DJ Williams - and Joe Mays - who did not contribute up to the weight of their salaries. I can see why the Broncos might look to Champ for a restructuring considering the value of his contract.

At least we aren't the Ravens - with Flacco's lunatic agent calling for him to be the highest paid QB in the league.

Ok scratch that... relooking at this

The 2nd article is confused... PFT states that those numbers are simply the Broncos adjusted cap number... not actual available space. Things like unreached incentives can often create a cap adjustment (see the Vikings for some record numbers of cap adjustments based on fluff contractual incentives).

14.1 mil is not our available ... the earlier article that was referenced is on ESPN and that is what the 2nd article relies on for the 18.5mil number... that espn article has us at 18.5mil with a cap adjustment from carryover at 11.5mil.. however, we had an additional cap adjustment in the amount of 2.6mil from other sources than carry over. This should mean that our actual available cap space is around 21.1 mil... depending on of course what the final cap number is set at and any cuts we may have.

Ummm... I'd be ok with us being the Ravens right now... Champions with a crazy lunatic QB isn't ALL bad! ;)

I'm pretty sure the 14.1M is right as it was 18.5 and then the roster bonus (mostly for probowl appearances) kicked in.

Besides a good rule of thumb when it comes to cap space is that the lower number is usually right. Also Fatman as a Broncos exclusive site is a better resource for this than a site that covers the whole league.

Everyone can make mistakes.. I may even be wrong ;) but it seems that if PFT is correct and the Broncos carryover is 14.1mil (11.5 + other carryovers) then it is very unlikely that 14.1mil is our exact cap space too, as the carryover is just how much bigger the cap is for us versus the set cap amount (which should be about 121mil so with the carryover we'd be at 136mil). It may be that the 14.1mil number was reported and simply misunderstood as to what it actually represented. Doesn't really matter though like I said... however much it ends up being, you can be sure we aren't going to be throwing lot's of dollars around and we should have plenty to take care of our in-house business (Clady for example).

9mil or so I think to franchise him, so just throw that against the cap. Ultimately, I think you see a few contract restructures and such, we really don't have any bad contracts at this point. Although, we better damn well hope Manning doesn't get hurt anytime soon because if he is on the roster at the start of this next league year his 20 mil dollar base salaries in 2013 and 2014 both become guaranteed. Otherwise, we have been very responsible with our contracts, don't have a lot of dead money, and can certainly make the moves the team seems to want to make... lower cost veterans and draft picks. Personally, I like that philosophy as it is nice to bring in the young guys to learn for a year or two first and see how to handle themselves and see what it takes to stay in the league.

If we throw it against the cap don't we get to subtract what he made last year ?

He did make something ? Right ?

The Broncos are so close to a championship - I don't think they will let a little something like the salary cap get in the way of fixing what needs to be fixed - as long as dead money is not there - there is no salary cap problem or limitation.
