I was not aware Harbaugh was another Reid carry-over like Castillo until I read this article. Reid's assistants have done nothing, despite all their hype.

PS Castillo has jewelry now I guess? Talk about a lucky landing.

IMO, not too impressive as all these guys are non-defensive coaches who didn't necessarily cut their teeth under the tutelage of Rhodes.

No offense, Swat, and certainly no offense to Ray Rhodes who I respect, but I don't think there is a Ray Rhodes coaching tree. Rhodes really hails from the San Fran coaching tree and Bill Walsh, but really he tutored under George Seifert. He also coached under Mike Holmgren in Green Bay.

Gruden also hails from the Mike Holmgren coaching tree in Green Bay.

Payton got his start under Rhodes in Philly, but he established himself under Jim Fassel(!), and he really aligned himself and his coaching style with Bill Parcells in Dallas.

McCarthy coached one year under Rhodes, in 1999. He got his start under Marty Schottenheimer in KC, so that's where he evolved.

And Harbaugh is really an Andy Reid guy. Give credit where it's due.

All coaches move around and align themselves with different "trees." Everyone thinks Mike Shanahan hails from the Bill Walsh coaching tree, but he really started with Dan Reeves in Denver. And Reeves hails from the Tom Landry coaching tree. So the Redskins' head coach comes from a branch of the Dallas Cowboys' legendary coach. I think that's funny.

Oops, actually I see that Swat was only pulling his info from an article. That's a flawed article, likely from a writer with an ax to grind against Andy Reid.
