Bingo. In 2001, at age THIRTY NINE, Jerry Rice caught 83 balls for over 1,100 yards and 9 touchdowns. That's ****ing insane. Even his last year in the league, playing for the Seahawks, he was reasonably productive -- averaging 14.5 yards per reception with three touchdowns in 9 starts for them.

Jerry Rice was never a compiler.

But what argument could you make for another player if not Rice at #1?
I think an argument could be made for Don Hutson based on his dominance vs his peers. I don't think it's a particularly strong argument; he was clearly a player before his time though. The fact he's still 9th all-time in receiving TDs is kinda silly.

I think Rice is the clear GOAT at this point, but I don't think he's insuperable. It will take a lot of things "going right" for someone (Fitz, Megatron, Green, Jones, etc.) to have a realistic shot though because of Rice's combination of excellence and longevity.

Clearly no one should never say never, but I think other factors, increasing the reg season to 18 games, more rules making it even harder to play pass defense, and possibly a coach/team going full on Houston Cougars spread offense will also be needed.

As it stands right now though. Jerry Rice is to this generation what Jim Brown was to his.

There's should be a debate on whether he's the second greatest ever.

Moss is probably a lot like Shaq in the fact that neither put forth their best effort for their entire career and while both are clearly in the Mount Rushmore of their positions in their pro sports, both are still a bit of a dissapointment.
I think there is one other similarity between the two, they're both a bit overrated, in general, because of the player they could have been.

The best part of the outcome of this game is the fact that Moss will never get a ring. He's lost about three steps. To summarize, his top speed now is approximately what he used to run on running plays. He's the definition of primadona.
