Windows 8. How to Get Around the Suck

Does anyone use this? I have to at work and find it incredibly awkward, especially with chrome.

You end up using both hands for shortcut keys. Welcome to 1993.

I've used it, and I agree it's somewhat awkward at first - probably because it's a radical direction change for Microsoft. I think it's because it's more of a touch-based interface rather than a simple desktop c/w keyboard.

That's why using it as a business desktop without a touch screen is so wonderful.

I guess Microsoft doesn't need the enterprise accounts for this edition.

I'd be happy to switch. Of course, since that's illegal (I think) you probably can use other searches.

It won't let u add any without admin rights. I'm talking the little arrow that shows up when you highlight a word. Try to add one, it says it's full and yet Bing is the only one there.

Turns it into a Windows 7 look for free.

Thanks Walsh, I've looked into that, or things similar. Unfortunately, it's a new job and my boss (the admin) excitedly told me about how he bought me a new computer with the latest OS.

I've brought up the usability problems and he's used words like "challenge" and learning curve.

In other words, he's the tech guy in my immediate circle, he likes playing with something new and i depend on him for everything job wise at this point, so I'm stuck with this. Not where and when I want to pick a fight.

    Ouch.

Then you're just gonna have to spend a couple weeks making painful adjustments.

Almost every "shortcut" in Windows 8 involves 2 keys now.

I'm preparing to have to use my left foot too once i get to multi tasking. Ouch is right, I appreciate the sympathy.

We use Chrome, so there's a full page with virtually no controls. I have to use alt-tab just to have outlook and a browser available. It's just like the 90s again.

Curiously enough, the toolbar shows up on windows internet explorer, but I'm not allowed to use that. The fact I would even want to use that crap shows how much I hate this, though.

It's an ever changing field, though and, hopefully, people complain so much about this ms will offer a desktop fix.

My boss did show me the alt tab thing for three "windows" and I almost said "just like windows 3.1" but I thought better of it.

I have windows 8 and it's working out very well. Runs better on older PCs than any Windows OS, IMO. Smooth, responsive and snappy as well as faster boot times on slow drives.
