    Mallett to the Browns

Watching ESPN and Mort was asked about Mike Lombardi going to the Browns. Mort said it was a good move and Mike knows his stuff. Mort said that Lombardi thought Wheaton was a ridiculous choice and they made it because they panic. Mort said Lombardi thought Mallett was the best QB in that draft and saild to look for Lombardi go after him in the off season!!!

ps Watched one of the college football ALL star game yesterday. They had a receiver Jaron Brown from Clemson. He's big and showed good hands. Could be a middle round choice. Anyone know any thing about him.

Heard that a couple times. Bedard has mentioned it in the past. FWIW, Cleveland doesn't have 2nd rounder this year.

Lombardi was also on the record that if he were given a GM job last year, his first move would've been to trade for Hoyer...so in that light it seems silly to give anything up for Mallett when he can get Hoyer for free now.

Seriously, though, I don't see it happening from either end...the only thing Mallett has over Weeden at this point is that he hasn't played enough to prove he isn't a good QB. Unless Chudzinski decides there's just no hope for Weeden to be a competent QB for the next couple of years, it doesn't make sense to cut bait with a high pick that fast. Especially for another player with even less of an NFL track record. And no matter how much BB likes Lombardi, he's not likely to give up having his backup QB locked up cheap for the next 2 years at a price they'd be willing to pay.

So what you're saying is Lombardi has common sense?

Anyone with half a brain should've had Mallet as a top 2/3 QB in that draft and known a 28 year old rookie is not the best way to use your 1st rounder.

Maybe we can get Ben Watson for him.

He'd be a great fit for the offense in either Cleveland or Arizona. I'd try to make them swap 1st rounders for him. Its a better deal for those teams than taking someone like Tyler Wilson at 6/7. The Pats would then have a lot of options there.

I'll gladly take their 2014 first rounder!

    Would you trade Vereen?

I don't understand why trade a QB more than half league think PAT's stole with later round pick than he talents represents. Ummmm, what will PAT's have for QB in 3 years...maybe 2?
Same as Brady sitting behing Bledsoe for years until his time, so too should Mallett.

The two biggest positions of need out of draft prospects are Belichick's two weakest to evaluate: CB & WR!

Brady sat for one year. And Mallett is more likely to be gone in 2 years than Brady is. They'll be drafting another QB next year to take his place as the clipboard holder in 2015.
