It seems to me that people will never consider someone a "football guy" unless they played in the NFL or college. No amount of experience in football front offices will ever remove that label of "not a football guy."
But that's just what I gather when these conversations come up. I personally don't hold with the idea that people who don't play can't evaluate talent; how did Matt Millen's playing experience help him? How did it hurt Kevin Colbert, given the Steelers' couple Super Bowl wins in his time there?
Wings, the question then becomes "Does Jon Gruden want to coach?" Until we know that, building him up as a possibility is more likely to lead to disappointment than anything else.
