I can't tell if you're quoting me because I use tapatalk, but if this is my quote, just FYI, I support a registration system (well, I guess "I don't oppose" would be more accurate) and I don't think it makes you an opponent of the 2nd amendment.
I'll agree with RayClay that this type of attitude does represents a real compromise by gun supporters where the goal is really to protect the innocent. We have pieces in place but we need more to make it work as we expect it should.

While I appreciate your sentiment, I can't wholly share it.
A "real compromise" would be giving up weapons except for those that are actually focused on hunting, target shooting, display, or home defense.
APF doesn't come in screaming at others about how stupid they are. APF doesn't spam NST with the same tired topic 30 times a month. APF doesn't link to some kook in his mom's basement telling you how to, "Be afraid. Be very afraid" of the world falling down around you. And, when APF is proven wrong, he acknowledges he made a mistake and moves on, rather than harping about "sheeple."

I guess I'm trying to be a pragmatist to some degree. When you are talking about home defense you're talking about rifles and shotguns as opposed to hanguns is that right?
As much as I agree with the data that indicates that having a handgun in a home increases the likelihood of a gun death in that home in many ways beyond a crime, I'd rather have improved registration of all firearms over trying to ban handguns right now. I'll call it a compromise on my part in order to advance real improvements in detection and the like. What's the phrase from the movie Contact? Small steps.

Well, thank you for that. I hope reasonable people and reasonable approaches will prevail.

Yep. If we had only long-barreled guns, that would reduce the problems with criminals carrying guns around (a lot), and other sources of gun deaths (somewhat, even though most firearms can be used for most fatal purposes).

We would need some very stiff penalties for those still carrying hand-guns. By the same criminals.

Indeed.
