First of all, NEVER tank a play, let alone a game. A losing attitude is pervasive. Fans pay $ to go to the game.

Secondly, tank for what? To fire Lovie? Hmmmmmmmmm..... Just teasing. Never tank.

Nope. You play to win. And right now the pick wouldn't be high even if we went 8-8 so there's no significant difference anyway.
Basic, yes, but it was something we rarely saw under former Bears coordinator Ron Turner. Turner's idea of in-game adjustments involved his boxer shorts. -Rick Morrissey.

Well, yes and no. We're talking about maybe 17 (8-8) vs 23 (10-6 wildcard). 6 hypothetical places isn't numerically huge, but could easily be the difference between having a serious OT option and not.

The word "hero" is frequently abused badly. This is a real hero.

Good point. I guess i meant a 6 spot difference is more significant in the front half of the draft. 11 to 17 is much more than 17 to 23, but I agree with what you're saying as we would've been in a much better spot last year had we not beaten MN in a meaningless game. Of course these next two games are very meaningful as winning out still gives us a high likelihood of making the playoffs and I take that over a pick improvement any year.

What do Lovie Smith Dick Jauron and Dave Wannstadt have in common ? I mean besides being defensive minded ?

They wont tank a game as their record means everything to them

It can make a huge difference!
Look at last years week 17 win against the queens.
With that win the bears climbed to 8-8 and with the strongest SOS of the 8-8 teams they selected 19. If they had lost they would have had the strongest SOS of the other two 7-9 teams and selected 13th. That would have also bumped their 2nd round pick up to 44 and 3rd rounder to 74. Whats the difference you say?

Well with the 13th pick, they would have selected Bruce Irvin. Do you think his 8 sacks could have helped the D better then Sheas 2.5?
in round 2, we wouldnt have had to spend a 5th rounder to get Jefferies or for that matter could have used that 5th to move up 4 or 5 slots and selected Glenn or Martin. and at 74 we could have selected Stephenson or for that matter Wilson(which they wouldnt have)

so dont you think we might be a bit better off with Irvin, Stephenson and an extra 5th rounder or Irvin and Glenn then we are now?

I was with you last year vs. Minny. I said it was a difference between being around 12 and late teens. 18 to 24 I don't see as much and the discussion right now is premature because we still have this year to play for.

We were out of it last year and Lovie still wouldn't tank it vs. Minnesota. I want the Bears to lose. I'm done w/ Lovie. If the new HC wants Cutler around, hopefully he'll be wise enough to give him an OL, TE, and a #2 WR.
Darkness can only be lit, not fought.
