    Threatening Tweets

What kind of recourse should this guy face, if anything, for threatening Mark Sanchez via Twitter? The guy in question says he was just a tweet, no big deal, in a nutshell.

Should threatening tweets or Facebook posts be treated the same in the eyes of the law?

And the reason that this tweet should be taken seriously is the availablity of guns here in the states.

Yes, he should be arrested for assault. I love football and don't want my players feeling like they're going to be picked off by some nut carrying a handgun.

Yes, they should be seen as equal. You never know if some idiot is going to take action on a threat.

And on a side note, the tone deafness of this individual in the wake of Sandy Hook alone should be a jailable offense.

IMO his tweets were pretty well thought out. It's one thing if you're pissed off and you say something like "you don't deserve to live" or "I'm going to kill you for ruining my team" but he sent out multiple tweets, not just saying he's going to kill him but making very specific threats - like don't go to practice Wednesday. Tweeting other people saying he's going to kill Sanchez. Too far imo...

Good lord people, if you put it in writing, you can't take it back.

And yes, they should be seen as equal. We've been talking all week about how we need to do a better job determining who are the threats out there to do real harm to the population. We can't then turn around and say, "Oh, this was okay, it was only twitter." Like Genus said, this wasn't a single porrly-worded tweet, this was a series of very specific threats.

assault 1) v. the threat or attempt to strike another, whether successful or not, provided the target is aware of the danger. The assaulter must be reasonably capable of carrying through the attack.

Apparently students at some local school systems were threatening on social media to take weapons to school tomorrow as precaution for the world ending on Friday. Last night 3 different school districts formally announced that school would be closed today and friday.

    *facepalm*

Death threats are death threats. They should all be taken seriously. Javon Belcher was telling people he was going to kill his girlfriend the week before he ultimately did it.

Even if it's just a fan blowing off steam, it needs to be investigated. It only takes one.
