Given their respective ages, I am much happier with money being spent on Lang than on Wells.

And it's funny, because nearly every other team who has a franchise (or borderline franchise) quarterback can claim how, "lucky" they were, too:

Patriots are, "lucky" Tom Brady fell to them in the 6th round
Saints are, "lucky" nobody wanted to sign Drew Brees
And so on, and so on...

From Wiki: On August 14, 2012, Lang signed a 4 year contract extension with the Packers worth $20.8 million and a $5.5 signing bonus through 2016.

Yes, the Pats are lucky indeed. With three SB titles and 5 SB appearances to go along with that.

Yeah, Wells or Saturday in 2012. This.

This is moving the goal posts in the argument, because you were contending that we only had money for Lang or Wells.

    I've moved no goalposts.

Saturday was basically on the scrap heap yet TT preferred to pay Lang than a guy in his prime as Wells was. It had a huge impact in 2012, maybe cost the team as the entire OL suffered for it.

Who was more replaceable? Wells or Lang? Seems to me Lang was.

Gee, I wonder what player has been the cornerstone for that continued success? Hint: It isn't their center.

If you're going to get your panties in a wad over Thompson not signing one of our players, look no further then Cullen Jenkins. Similar age and contract as Wells, yet Jenkins presence has been missed significantly more then Wells.

The argument is what combo was better for the team - Lang and Saturday or Wells and unknown player XXXXXX. And that is impossible to say because we don't know who would have replaced Lang, and even Wells only played 7 games for the Rams, would that have happened for us to...who knows?

But just between Wells and Lang, I would have rather signed the then 24 year old Lang for $20 million than the then 31 year old Wells to a $24 million contract.

Personally I always thought Wells was a solid but not great C, but my preference would have just to resign both. TT apparently didn't think that was an option given the long-term contracts that we had down the road.

Not sure Lang was in his walk year in 2012. So even less sense that TT let Wells reach that point but felt compelled to sign Lang. I have my opinion about that. TT did not draft Wells and didn't care to give him a deal, not his guy. Wouldn't be the first GM to do something like that.

I believe Wells was stepped on and suffered a broken foot, something like that. So his injury was unlikely to happen in a Packers uniform.

Also, TT has shown little interest in signing/resigning any player to a deal that will keep them on the team into their mid 30s (Charles Woodson being the lone exception to this). So maybe there isn't some perverse "not my guy" motives behind his decision to keep the younger Lang at less money than the older Wells for more money?
