Yes defense has doubled over the last 10 and we all know that is coming undone. Look at the proposals for next year and beyond, less than the rate of inflation isn't it.

Right. But that is still growing. Growing at less than the rate of inflation is surely better than actual budget cuts for social programs.

The whole point of regulatory bodies in the govt was to ensure "safety" of products, NOT to write new laws and bully businesses you don't like. Congress/Executive/Judicial. You name it, the govt is completely in bed with the pharma industry. Even to the point of approving and protecting companies from lawsuits regarding dangerous drugs which have killed thousands each year.

I didn't say we should be completely without safety nets (although if people would be responsible and generous with their neighbors locally, it wouldn't be needed). Safety nets need to be governed properly and right now the current safety nets are being used as a way of life and the socialists are using them as a means of procuring endless power. "Vote for me, THEY want to take away your food stamps that we Democrats give you"..... See the game that is being played? Keep lowering the bar of who qualifies for the government goodies until you have effectively hooked society on government and the government is beyond sustainable, so then you must insert authoritarian controls when people see how fricken BAD the country has become and they want to roll back that govt. You give the people of our country very little credit don't you? I happen to think that people don't need govt, especially an educated people. You think it would be a disaster to make massive cuts. I think it will be our shining moment and allow us to prepare and bounce back to being a great nation again. Big government and more massive debt is just robbing us and further making people dependent. All terrible things.

What you will never understand, clearly, is that the government IS the people, or at least its supposed to be. Its fine to say that it is not, its not fine to say that it shouldn't or can't be. You can whine about "government" all you want, but even a decision to stay out of most situations is a decision that is going to be made by the people, through government. To take away our say is just idiotic and unproductive.
