Also, I like the idea that the #1 team (if not the #2) gets a real bonus for that seeding. If it's "just" homefield advantage, you might see the top teams resting players and getting a sure thing instead of fighting it out for homefield and no rest at all.

And yeah, I usually skip half the playoff games already. So adding to that isn't likely to improve that ratio (unless my team is one of the two or four that gets added out of thirty-two - which is kinda likely if it was this year, but not usually). It wouldn't be as bad as the bowl games in college, but still weak.

As a fan you didn't find those wins more satisfying then other wins.

Not good for fans or people who buy advertising time during the Superbowl.

The league has expanded teams and playoff games during its history, and the same argument, in some form or fashion, was used previously.

But the better teams usually get to the Super Bowl. Crappy teams rarely get to the Super Bowl. And, really, are they that crappy if they have the lowest seed yet beat the higher seeds on their way to the Super Bowl?

Furthermore, we've seen teams that were supposed to make it fail. Keeping the playoff number as is won't keep that from happening occasionally either.

If you are getting to the Superbowl, you are playing good football no matter how crappy a seeding you had. Blowouts are pretty much nonexistent(sp?) now for Superbowls.

Its a "on the other hand" situation for me. The Giants have become the NFL team I love to hate most, have been for a while now. Main reason being - the Giants have been hard on the Skins and in a particularly irritating way. So in that regard it was great to ass paddle them twice last year and from the competitive games we had with them this year. It was great to see that last year wasn't simply a mirage or an anomaly.

On the other hand. Beating the Gmen twice last year did nothing to prevent us from finishing dead last in the NFC East. Or keep Skins fans from being knee deep into discussions about the next draft and talk of how losing games would be better for our draft positioning at this same exact time last year. The Giants going on to win yet another Super Bowl title last year didn't help matters much either.

So basically while sweeping the Giants last year did feel good, really good. In the overall scheme of how things turned out. It was pretty much a wash.

Yep. Most people replace the second "e" with an "a", but yours is the correct spelling.

Makes perfect sense. I still stand by my point, that even when your team is bad, beating a hated opponent you play twice a year for many years is worthwhile.

Sure. But finishing in last place and talking about next year's draft and who your team can hopefully acquire in that draft. 3 or 4 weeks before the present season is even over. As well as watching that hated opponent win their 2nd SB title in 5 years. Take a lot of the worthwhile away imo.

So you think a team could beat 2-3 playoff caliber teams, but then would be likely to be blown out in the Super Bowl? Maybe we should merge this thread with the one about what makes a team the best team.
