Former GOP Governor Changes Party Affiliation

Charlie Crist, former GOP governor of Florida, officially announced Friday evening a move to the Democratic Party.

It is anticipated that the 56 year old will challenge current Republican Governor of Florida, Rick Scott.

Crist was a high-profile campaign surrogate for Obama this past election cycle, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this September in support of the president. "I didn't leave the Republican party," Crist said in his speech. "It left me."

I wonder if it's only a matter of time until he comes out of the closet.

Honestly, I don't get a gay vibe from him at all.

I actually don't know Crist's positions all that well--is he going to fit into the Democratic Party?

Unless he's changing to Libertarian, then it's not really a change at all. The 2-party system is still essentially only one party when it comes to the biggest problems the people face from a too-powerful govt.

Don't worry, Jim. Neither does he.

From what I can tell, Crist is a weathervane; once he knows which way the wind's blowing, he starts pointing in that direction.

In other words, yes, he'll be a great fit for the Democratic party.

Or does that mean that he is simply representing the wishes of his constituency...

I'll agree, Crist is all over the place and tends to buck the trend at times of his party, BUT Florida is kind of all over the place, so is Crist just simply blowing with the wind of his people?

the 2 party system is the most efficient means to govern. Sure the down side is when the 2 parties indistinguishably serve the same interests but no system is perfect.
