The basic idea is that the steady $1 price has been a fiction, and enough of the fiction is enough. But I haven't tracked any of the details, or what the change would mean in practice. My GUESS is that the value of money-market funds would fluctuate very slightly, if at all, but it's a guess that's rather unsupported.

That's what I took away from the article, too, but I don't have the financial chops to go much deeper than that.
