Too friggin' many. My mixed chorus is doing an entirely a capella concert next Saturday--mostly traditional Christmas music, but in arrangements most won't have heard before, and a couple of Latin and Russian pieces. My men's chorus is nodding toward Christmas, but our concert is mostly about us, and the fact that it's our 20th anniversary. THEN I've been shanghaied into doing a Boheme, with the company that my grandmother sang with before she married my grandfather.

This coming Saturday? Where. I know this is a pain because I ask you every year..... but I'm sure SOMEDAY one or many of us will get to see/hear you. We can disagree on many issues.... but music (ok, not rap) is unification as is any art.

Next Saturday, the 8th. The men's chorus sings on the 5th (Wed) and 9th (Sun).

If you're shanghaied into it, shouldn't it be Turandot? :)

    Seriously -- what role?

Just chorus. I'm actually joining a month into the rehearsal process, so I have to learn the music on my own.

The funny part is, this is a director that I last worked under when I was in college--and he remembered me!

    And very funny...

I find it amusing that you're singing Boheme after having Rent in your .sig a while back. ;)

I never ever tried Rent, figuring that changing the music of Boheme was move in the wrong direction.

Not compared to some of the other actors in that production (The Merry Widow), I'm not. The woman who played Hannah had one of the most glorious soprano voices I've ever heard at any level; she cleaned up that season, and if she was in the chorus for a production, it was because she hadn't auditioned for a role in it.

The guy who played Danilo, on the other hand, was a magnificent singer, but he was most famous for his pants. Onstage, he was always splitting them, because he kept asking the costume department to make them tight to show off his ass. Offstage, he didn't have that problem, because he seldom had them on. When we had our year-end banquet that season, the nominees for most loving couple were:

    1) Eddie and Len
    2) Eddie and Christopher
    3) Eddie and Tyler

    And the award went to....

    Eddie

When did I have Rent in my sig????

Rent is a perfectly serviceable rock musical, and like Boheme, the secondary love story (Maureen-Joanne/Musetta-Marcello) is more interesting than the primary (Rodolfo/Roger-Mimi). However, I do have to wonder how much attention it would have gotten if the composer hadn't died the night before the premiere.

    Hmm...honestly can't remember. I know I use Sondheim and Coleman/Zippel, but I can't remember using Rent.
