Shaw has the NFL roots, and is known as a tough coach, but is innovative, ansd a winner! He beat Chip Kelly last sturday, for one thing. Thoughts?
I know that I have said Gruden would be best, but I'm with ya duke I like what Shaw brings to the table.

1a. He has been with Philly in 97 as a Quality Control coach so he has experienced what this city expects from it's football team. He has also therefore had a taste of the Philly media.
1b. He was a Quality Control coach with the Raiders 98-2000 & Quarterbacks coach on 01.
1c. He was Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers coach for the Ravens 02 to 05.
1d. He was Wide Receivers coach for Sand Diego in 06.
1e. His father is Willie Shaw so he comes from an NFL coaching pedigree.

Yes he has bounced around the league but this also means that he has seen the NFL coaching life from many different perspectives including his father's.

    2. The fact that he has moved to so many different jobs & still continued to improve shows drive & determination.
    3. After Harbaugh left Stanford Shaw took over & Stanford stayed strong. Yes Harbaugh built most of the roster that remained but he also took Stanford coaches with him. Shaw also lost Luck. He filled the holes on the roster & coaching staff & kept rolling. That shows organizational skills & adaptability.
    4. He's 40 years old so not too young but young enough to be hungry still.
    5. He worked under Harbaugh so he likely could rely on him as a source of advice for not only transitioning back to the NFL but also about being a successful 1st time NFL coach.

I do still like John Gruden but I also worry that he's too far removed from the coaching game to be effective at least in his 1st few seasons back. I figure because of this it may be worth taking a risk elsewhere & i think Shaw is as worth it as NFL assistants like Fangio, Gruden, etc.

The Philly Triangle - The SE PA phenomenon has now stabilized it's southern tier with a new foundation. The depth of that stability is yet to be proven, but may have the potential to re-energize the entire triangle & the team it fields. Analysts of the triangle caution against speculation until the foundation shows it's true nature...stay tuned to this continuing saga.

Considering his father Shaw is from a coaching family.

He & as WIZ said Jay Gruden are the best NFL coordinator choices IMO.

Their defenses have never been anything special IMO. As far as I'm concerned the Ryan twins got nothing from their father but the mouth & the last name. I want no parts of either!

Any of these guys would be good choices:
    David Shaw
    Bradley
    Fangio
    McCoy
    McDaniels

Vic Fangio. There's a reason why there has been success everywhere he has been. Indianapolis, Baltimore, and now San Fran. He's an East Stroudsburg grad. Coached the USFL Stars. Lots of assistant coach connections.

I also would prefer a HC with NFL experience (not retreads) and right now the names that intrigue me most are McCoy, Bradley, Fangio and McAdoo BUT there are others I really don't know much about that may very well be a better fit.
I'd really like to know if there is a Labeau disciple out there with HC qualities.

Now, if only Vick would follow Reid out the door maybe football would be fun again.

Just to pick nits, Jim Mora Sr was fired from the Colts because he wouldn't fire Fangio. Their D went from 31st in Fangio's final year to 7th the following season (Ron Meeks/Tony Dungy). The O was top5 the whole time.

So clearly he's improved, but he wasn't successful everywhere. It was over 10 years ago, so i don't know if it should matter.
