Was it in Montreal? There may not be reciprocity in the computers YET - and that's 'international'. My son got a ticket in Arizona some twenty-two years ago - he tried to make payments of $25 per month on it. After accepting 5 payments they wrote to him and demanded $50 per month. He could not afford that at the time, sent them another $25 - they sent it back, rejected. He blew it off. He renewed his license multiple times over the next 22 years in NC (every 4 years) until THE LAST TIME he went to renew it - they wouldn't renew it for the outstanding ticket in Arizona. He had to pay it and by that time it had reached $900+. Reciprocity, coming to a DMV near you.
Yep, Montreal. Reciprocity has been around in the States for a long time and all the DMV's are plugged in. But apparently not Canada since I've had a license renewal and several new registrations in the last few years. We've even sold the car in queston. But, yeah, that's why I was considering it. 22 years is nice run though. Of course if we ever decide to visit Canada it might be a different story.
