WTF is Active X Filtering? - Distress signal - need help

So all of a sudden I have this circle with a slash through it on my address bar and everytime I go to a website, I have to turn off the Active X Filter to see video, some avatars, some ads, etc.

What the hell is this thing and how can I get rid of it?

I don't see it in my list of programs when I go to the control panel, uninstall programs.

You probably need to go into your browser settings and delete cookies and history or just uninstall the entire browser. You may also want to consider installing a program like advanced system care from download.com to diagnose and fix problems. Sounds like a malware issue.

If you're in Internet Explorer, go to Tools at the top, then Internet Options, then click the "Advanced" tab on the far right.

There should be a "Reset" button on that screen towards the bottom- select that and check the "Delete personal information" box too.

You'll see that it will delete the ActiveX filtering settings as well as all your cookies.

You'll have to re-enter all your passwords after restarting your browser, but it will set your IE back to factory defaults and should fix the ActiveX issue.

I just opened IE, turned on ActiveX filtering, and went to CNN and tried to view a video. It didn't work. I turned ActiveX filtering off, and then it worked fine.

Perhaps your only problem is that you inadvertently turned on ActiveX filtering. You can turn it off by clicking Tools, Internet Options, and clicking it to uncheck it.

Too late. I already took Walsh's advice and reset the settings.

I know what your talking about with the videos though. I could have just clicked on the Active X icon and turned it off, but I would have had to do it for every website I visited. Sounds like your way of turning it off would have worked as well.

    Muchas gracias.

See Walshie, if you had just not been sarcastic in your first reply, poor Bear would have been on the road to recovery sooner...lol
