He was regarded as an up and coming HOT assistant position coach. Lurie thought he would outsmart everybody, taking an assistant who had never been a coordinator. That worked out great, didn't it.

What about Bill O'Brien? I mean he was part of New England's coaching staff and Tom Brady's coach. He's doing an incredible job at Penn State after having the team ripped apart losing their Heisman candidate RB, their #1 WR, their top TE, an OL, DL, LB, and have been basically playing the season without a punter or FG kicker after they all transferred. O'Brien has turned Matt McGloin into an unbelievable looking field general. Just 1 yer prior this was a guy who couldn't be out Rob Boldin and he sucked. O'Brien has brought excitement to Happy Valley in a time where Penn State football was 1 step from falling off a cliff. O'Brien has done things that most other coaches are afraid to do. After the freshman FG kicker hurt them by missing FGs in their 1st 2 games O'Brien grew a big pair of hairy balls and now they just go for it on almost every 4th down and that includes times on there own side of the field. Did I mention that they are 13 out of 20 on 4th Downs, 65%. Pretty damn outstanding.

I expect this guy will be an NFL head coach before long and it wouldn't surprise me if he get's phone calls after the season to see where he stands on being interviewed for an NFL HC spot. I I'm the Eagles he's one of the guys I'm interviewing as I don't want Dallas and JJ getting this guy and us wishing we had went for him the next 12 years.

I will say I'd be very sad to see him leave Penn State because I think the way he has this team, and Universaty, headed he might have a chance of Saving them from at least 12 years of mediocrity. Right now the excitement he's bringing may just show that Penn State with an NFL coach is a place they still want to play at and winning the Big Ten would only help.

Anyway I'm throwing Bill O'Brien's name into the Eagle's HC Ring. What do you guys think?

I couldn't agree more, but you have to be realistic. He was coach in the NFL under one of the most successful coaches in the game. Now with him winning with what he has to work with only will enhance how NFL FO's see him. The Eagles might as well bring him in for an interview because you can be sure if they don't others will and one of those others is the Cowboys who has a HC on the hot seat and a QB who could be very under a HC like O'Brien. I hope he stays at PSU, but I wouldn't bet my house on it.

That would be a tough spot for him to get offered an NFL head coaching job. He's clearly a fantastic coach. I think he stays at PSU for a couple years but then again there's no prize at the end no matter how good you are.

Funny as I was watching Penn State last night I was thinking the same thing about Obrien, Love the way his offense is run. For anyone who is a Penn State fan who would have ever though McGloin could look this good. I am going to go out on a limb and not say I want Ried gone but I want OBrien whatever it takes to get him away from Penn State. And I am a Penn State fan but realistic the sanctions were so bad there is not way OBrien stays there 4 years

You guys just keep your filthy hands off O'Brien!!

Only if and when he has the desire to get back into the crucible of the NFL, should we mess with PSU!

    I mean it!!!!

If you mess with him, I will hunt you down, and kill you!!!!

because most people recognize college to nfl coaches have a higher failure rate than most. I'm wondering why you think chip kelly would be one of the few exceptions?

No. It's the "pick your next head coach thread". Someone mentioned Chip Kelly. I said Kelly or Gus Bradley would be ok. You then ask if I was ok with a college coach. I already answered that when I originally said he'd be ok. You then take your BS further with the "you on your period again?" acting like you still didn't get your answer. I try to move on from your obvious bait and then it's my fault you want me to answer stupid questions that were already answered. Thought you were a teacher? No wonder you were job hunting.

You know I agree losing O'Brien would be the death of the program. What he has done has been more then a miracle. Sure he lost few players to transfer, but he's kept some of the recruitment's including the #1 QB & #1 TE which after the penalties you had to think they'd lose. Add to that the fact that they are still seeing large crowns and playing on national television and also they lead the big Ten and have a chance to win it will only will bring more players to PSU. The way he's running the offense is going to bring big time talent to them because everyone' going to want to play in that kind of system. I just worry that some NFL team is going to swoop in and offer him a contract he can't turn down and a guy like Jerry Jones has the money and balls to do just that. I just hope O'Brien sees that he has the chance to be a legend at Penn state and who would have ever thought the next coach after JoePa could have done that?

I also hope he sees that without him the program is screwed and will will go back to being on the brink of death if he leaves after this year. He really needs to stay the 4 years to keep the Penn State program to falling back to mediocrity for the next decade at the very least.

Lofaw, I agree completely, and I doubt that he'd leave PSU to work for a moron meddler like JJ. Also, PSU is so loaded at TE, it is almost illegal. If Brenneman still comes, they will have a nice problem. I hope that Hackenberg still comes, and I think he will because of the excitement of having O'Brien prepare him for the NFL. I think that O'Brien's family want to stay in Happy Valley because of the quality of life there. After 4 years, who knows? But he might not want to leave a comfortable place that he has for the pressure and ulcerating lifestyle in the NFL. How successful he has will determine the future, just as it does for all of us.

Lets put it this way I agree 100% however if O'Brien is going to leave Penn State which I believe he will before the 4 year sanctions are over, then I want him here with the Eagles. Overwise I want him to stay at Penn State

BTW and don't think for a minute Lurie wouldn't look at O'Brien he has the New England connection, He has been successfull as a cooridnator in the NFL and now he is showing he could be a good head coach at the college level in one of the harshest of harsh conditions. Heck if O'Brien can succeed in the situation he is in now, then coming here dealing with the Philly fans would be a relative piece of cake.

My question was "why" do you think chip Kelley would be okay. I guess supporting your reasoning is too much to ask, though you have said in the past you're here to talk football. Coulda fooled me cus that was a football question. Instead you think everything's "gotcha" question. I don't even see how it could be. i'll drop it, though.
