Pregame Thread: Week 6 Lions vs. Eagles

The Lions are a top five offense and a top 10 defense. But they are 1-3. They are at the bottom on punt coverage and kick coverage. Come on Bobby April and Special Teams. Eagles rank 28 in punt returns and 30 in kick off returns. We must be able to exploit that element.

Come on defense. Currently ranked 28th in sacks (7). I wonder how the Eagles will deal with Megatron. Nnamdi hasn't shown lockdown skills recently. Can you also picture the 6' 5" Megatron lined up against the 5' 9" Boykin?

Come on offense. Which Vick will show up? What game plan will be put in place? Will we hear the 'McCoy' phrase whispered as Lesean breaks some ankles on a number of runs.

Come on special teams. The Lions have allowed a punt return and kick off return for a touchdown in each of their two previous games.

I'm hoping we run more. Keep Stafford and Megatron off the field more. Get at least two turnovers on defense. The Eagles record going into the bye week isn't overwhelming but I'm hoping that changes.

I think the game will be tough. Eagles get back to winning on their last drive. Eagles 24, Lions 20.

(Secretly hoping for a blowout win. Eagles 31, Lions 13)

MY concerns in this game are solidly in the middle of the Eagles offensive line. How do Reynolds, Mathis and Watkins handle Suh and Fairley both in the run and pass game. If the middle of the line can come up with some ways to slow down (they won't stop them)Suh and Fairley I think the Eagles win this game with McCoy getting it done on the ground and Vick having a couple of big completions down the stretch of the game. If the Eagles can't slow down Suh and Fairley early it will be a long turnover filled game, one that Vick very well could get hurt in because we all know that Suh is the cheapest of cheap when it comes to taking shots.

This is a huge game for both teams, bigger for the Lions because 1-4 essentially takes them out of the playoff hunt. For that reason I am picking the Lions to win 28-17.

Eagles could use a fast start but all that matters is getting the W. Bye next week...hopefully they wont be looking ahead.

We haven't been good before Bye weeks. Makes this game shaky. Lions aren't very good, but they'll capitalize on a few defensive mistakes and our O hasn't put together a real game yet. We'll have to get more pressure, but coming off of their bye the Lions will probably use the underneath game like the Steelers did coming off of their bye.

This game will tell a lot. We've owned the Lions in the past and now they're desperate. Vick should also be desperate to put up a good game. Should be fun to watch.

Eagles win on late TD by Mccoy after trailing most of the game.
Calvin Johnson puts up 2 td's on us.

Wings i think the opposite but here's why

-The Eagles traditionally play like crap before the bye
-OTOH the Lions traditionally play like crap off the bye

-the Eagles O has been stagnant and the Lions have a top 10 D, BUT the Lions have been giving up 28 ppg.

Det has been middle of the road vs the run and top 10 vs the pass. We should see more "game manager Vick" but rush/pass numbers have never meant much to Reid in the past. I think we get out to the early lead, even leading at the half for the first time this year, as the Lion's O has been pedestrian in the 1st halves in lots of games. But the Lions have had a penchant for 2nd half comebacks the last two years. I think they come roaring back in the 2nd half and we drop this one late, 31-27, leaving Reid to question Castillo over the bye.

This week our special teams step up.

Their secondary stinks so Jackson will have a few big plays. They will never cover our receivers... Just give Vick a couple of seconds. Shady will have a few big runs once he gets thru the line of scrimmage. The Lions can't tackle. Their are worse than us last year. He'll have a few big runs.

They had better not choke on this game before the bye, or Reid may be going bye-bye! Look for the Birds to finally discover ways to score TDs!

If we can just keep Megatron form going nuts, I'd feel pretty good about this game.

    Two issues:

    - Calvin Johnson
    - interior of our O-line...

How the battle against these two goes, determines the game...

We need to exploit another team's wide nine for once with draws and screens by Shady.
