I don't watch MLS or much soccer in general. I seen/heard Seattle's team play at home. They had large and very vocal crowd. Then I came across a Portland home game. Very Euro experiance with thier fans
I've heard from some co-workers that watch soccer that Portland has some crazy fans. I know they had the rose garden rocking for years with the blazers until they turned into the "jail blazers".

Yep, put a dozen fans in the CLink, and you'd think you were at a Who Concert. Acoustics! It is known.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - Kung fu Monkey

True, but it tends to make for a horrid concert venue...
The Amsterdam Arena (Ajax stadium) is notorious for the same reason. Once attended a NFL Europe game there, some 15,000-20,000 fans (about 1/3 capacity). The opposing QB could not hear the calls in his headset, and my ears buzzed for about 2 days... There were multiple investigations by the NFL into artificial noise enhancement, but apart from normal plastic horns, there was none. Playes stated it was louder than they had encountered in any college stadium - including the big notorious ones.
