Post-2012 Season Thread - Lofaw Laughs Last

Congrats to Lofaw on winning the League. He had an excellent team from top to bottom and had stellar campaigns from Trout (great pick), Cabrera, and Hamilton while making great waiver wire pickups in Dickey, Tillman, and Romo.

On to the annual post-season questionnaire.

    1. How did your team do? Did it exceed or fall short of expectations?

I usually love my team when I draft it. I hated it this year. I am a big fan of the live draft, but for whatever reason I feel I would have had a different team if we posted our picks - that does not mean I want to change the draft format. So I would say they exceeded my post draft expectations, but I was also putting a lot of effort into this league the last 2 months. Lots of research. Every move the last 2 months was calculated. There's no way I could put that much effort into this again. But I effed up the first 4 months so bad, it didn't matter.

    2. Your team's MVP and Cy Young candidates?
Ryan Braun and David Price. Easiest question ever.

    3. Biggest surprise(s) on your team? Biggest disappointment?
I didn't think Braun would repeat that performance without Prince, so that was a surprise - I actually preferred Tulowitzki over Braun (thanks Donk). Granderson too (on the repeat performance) for that matter, but his OBP sucked. I wouldn't say I had a huge disappointment. Goldschmidt's power numbers and Josh Johnson's win totals were a little disappointing, but they performed to their draft slot just fine. Carlos Santana's numbers did not live up to the 3rd round draft slot, but I knew as soon as I hit "draft" on him, it was a bad pick.

    4. Tentatively, who are your keepers?
Pedro Alvarez (25th) and David Price (4th). Goldschmidt (12th) and Josh Johnson (8th) may be considered, but doubtful.

    5. For all of fantasy baseball, who was the MVP? Who was the biggest bust?
Miggy is the fantasy baseball MVP. I loved Jrs boldness in taking Kemp 1st overall. Duck the trend. It works a lot. Obviously, that didn't work for him this year though.

    6. If the 2012 Draft started today, who would be your top-5 fantasy players?
No clue. I'm sure Kemp, Braun and Cabrera are in there. Depending on where Hamilton winds up, he may be in there.

    7. Will you participate again next year?
unless the Mayans were right, I plan to be back.

    8. Anything you would like to change (e.g., any stats that you would like to add or replace, how the draft is operated, entry fee, etc.)?
nope. Just keep it. It's not worth the fight to change anything and this league is easy to understand. I'm not voting on anything, so if something gets changed, it will be without my vote (I'll still play). I think pitcher wins are almost worthless in "real baseball", but we all know how it is before the draft.

Congrats to Lofaw and Donk. Bayo, not so much.

    1. How did your team do? Did it exceed or fall short of expectations? Well obviously my team did great. I made a lot of moves that for once worked out. I definitely exceeded expectations. I was happy with my draft with the exception of my RPs, but I seen other teams I thought were better. I have to say all the injuries and under performing superstars really helped me. Also my pick of Trout late pretty much won SBs aall by himself along with all the other MVP stats he put up.

    2. Your team's MVP and Cy Young candidates?
Just like the American league it's a tough decision for MVP. So I'm electing Co-MVPs with Cabrera and Trout. I had a bunch of great pitchers, but Dickey had to be the Cy Young.

    3. Biggest surprise(s) on your team? Biggest disappointment?
Has to be Trout & RA Dickey. Neither was thought of has potential MVP or Cy young candidates at the start of the season. Biggest Disappointment is easy Roy Halladay. I know they say he wasn't hurt, but I don't believe it. When you have a work ethic like he does you just don't lose 7 mph on your fastball over an off season.

    4. Tentatively, who are your keepers?
Trout(20th) is an easy choice, but I screwed up with pitchers once again and should have kept Parker or Worley on my team all season. Instead I'm stuck with no real pitching keeper except maybe Chris Perez(17th). I'm just not sure I want to keep him.

    5. For all of fantasy baseball, who was the MVP? Who was the biggest bust?
I think Trout if you include my team, but not including my team I'll say Ryan Braun. As for Bust Halladay, Ellsbury, & Tulowitzki would be my choices.

    6. If the 2012 Draft started today, who would be your top-5 fantasy players?
Cabrera no question, Braun, Trout, McCutchen, & Kemp? Longoria? Tulowirzki? I don't really know, but it seems like too many OFs. So who knows.

    7. Will you participate again next year?
I'll definitely be back to defend my title as long as the league is still running and you guys aren't afraid I'll put a beat down on the league again. :)

    8. Anything you would like to change (e.g., any stats that you would like to add or replace, how the draft is operated, entry fee, etc.)?I'd rather have OPS which is OBP+SLG. Also I've said my peace about the maximum inning limit vs Start limit. Doesn't really matter. Whatever happens I'll adjust to the league. That's just what any good fantasy owner has to do to stay competitive.

    1. How did your team do? Did it exceed or fall short of expectations?

My team was awful. Under-performance was a big reason and so were injuries. Votto, Pedroia, Berkman, Willingham, and Young were all players that I drafted who missed significant time. I traded for Morrow, Ellsbury, Halladay, and Santos, and they also missed time.

Meanwhile, guys like Lawrie, Lincecum, and Romero all stunk it up. The only guys to perform were Willingham, Mauer, and Morrow.

    2. Your team's MVP and Cy Young candidates?

MVP - no one. This team stunk.

    Cy Young - see above.

    3. Biggest surprise(s) on your team? Biggest disappointment?

Willingham was the biggest surprise. He finished with 35 HRs and 110 RBIs in 145 games. Pretty good for a 19th round pick However, I don't know if I'll keep him.

Biggest disappointments - pretty much most of the team, including Votto, Pedroia, Halladay, Lincecum, Romero (he was dreadful), Putz, and on and on.

    4. Tentatively, who are your keepers?

Either Bryce Harper (14th round pick) or Willingham (19th round) as my hitters. I only have 1 pitcher worth keeping and that's Morrow (16th round).

    5. For all of fantasy baseball, who was the MVP? Who was the biggest bust?

MVP: Mike Trout - helped in all five categories.

Biggest Bust: Justin Upton - took several steps backwards this year. He should be a superstar by now.

    6. If the 2012 Draft started today, who would be your top-5 fantasy players?

Trout, Cabrera, Braun, Cano, and maybe McCutcheon.

    7. Will you participate again next year?

    Yep.

    8. Anything you would like to change (e.g., any stats that you would like to add or replace, how the draft is operated, entry fee, etc.)?

I'm fine with how the League is now.

    1. How did your team do? Did it exceed or fall short of expectations?
Probably better, but they tanked late.
    2. Your team's MVP and Cy Young candidates?
Buster Posey. And Verlander is obvious but any one of my relievers will be in the running.
    3. Biggest surprise(s) on your team? Biggest disappointment?
Butler had a monster year, but Allen Craig was a machine.
    4. Tentatively, who are your keepers?
Could be Posey or Butler, then Jordan Zimmerman or Fister.
    5. For all of fantasy baseball, who was the MVP? Who was the biggest bust?
Trout was MVP, Tulo was bust.
    6. If the 2012 Draft started today, who would be your top-5 fantasy players?
Trout, Miggy, Granderson, Braun, Verlander maybe.
    7. Will you participate again next year?
    Yes
    8. Anything you would like to change (e.g., any stats that you would like to add or replace, how the draft is operated, entry fee, etc.)?
I think it's fine. I am still not sold on OBP, but understand it's purpose.
