I can't stand guys who K a lot especially in critical situations. So many of the guys today simply don't cut their swings down even with 2 strikes and guys on base that it would drive me crazy if the Twins started stocking their team with players like that.

Some players do it right....others, even some guys who will hit 30+ HR's in a season, would drive me too crazy to cheer for.

Take a guy like Mark Renolds down in Arizona. He would easily be the best 3rd baseman at the plate that we have had since....the Rat???....and I still wouldn't really be a big fan just because of the insanely high K rate. I hate selfish baseball and a lot of these guys are just trying to put up numbers to get paid and not even bothering to think of what is going to help the team win.

Because I value on base percentage and slugging percentage.

The Twins acquired J.J. Hardy for Carlos Gomez. Hardy has major upside, but he's no sure thing either. It does set up the OF and we won't have to worry about SS for two years.

Ugh. They better have done their due diligence on his back problems. If Hardy returns to form, good trade. If not we just gave up one of the most talented 23 year olds (who STILL should have never played a single game in the majors…god what a mistake the Mets started and the Twins continued) in the game for a very limited SS.

Risky move for both teams. Still, its a great move on paper for the Twins. An expendable player who may or may not learn how to hit for a good defensive SS with power. .283 24 HRs with good D would be huge. Hopefully he can rebound to those numbers.

Span
Hardy? Hope not, not many options there. I'd actually rather put Mauer in the 2 hole but that won't happen.
Mauer
Morneau
Cuddy
Kubel
Valencia/Crede
Young
Punto - Hopefully to be replaced soon

Please sign another Brewer (Felipe Lopez,I believe he is a FA) to play 2nd.

The Twins need a righty for the 3 hole IMO. (assuming you bat Mauer 2nd).

Mauer will bat almost exclusively in the 3 hole next season guarenteed. Can anyone name a #2 hitter that lead the league in BA, OBP, and slugging in the history of the game??? Guys with his bat hit 3rd or 4th. That's baseball. I'm sure Hardy will fit into the 2 hole just fine.

You do what is best for your lineup. And without 2 high OBP guys at the top of the linup, which the Twins don't have, I don't see why you wouldn't hit Mauer 2nd to let the likes of Morneau, Cuddyer and Kubel get their hacks (altho Kubel absolutely needs a platoon partner).

Ideally they'd find a 2B or 3B that can hit in the 2 hole. Figgins would be interesting but I doubt he is a realistic option.

Finding a 2B with a good OBP, decent or better D, and at least a little speed would be the perfect scenario. Not sure who that would be, though.

Good Trade.

I'll miss Go Go's excitement and defense, but he needs to play everyday..... either in the bigs or the minors. He wasn't going to get that here. And now that Span has proven to be one of the top leadoff hitters in the game, and an above average defensive CFer, there was no room for Gomez on the ML team.

I wish him well, and if the kid ever learns how to hit...... watch out!

Ohhh, and Mauer will bat 3rd.

I like the trade, though it does come with risks. The thing is that there probably weren't any other realistic options out there that were better. Hardy, if healthy, is definately better than anyone else on the team.

Punto is going to be our 2b...unfortunately. There is just no one else ready to take the spot from him. Casilla will be the backup option to start the season, and hopefully he gets his head on straight.

At 3rd, I expect it to be a battle between Tolbert and Harris to start the season, and between these two I clearly favor Harris. I think Valencia will get an extended look in spring training before starting the year in Rochester.
