Buster Davis
So I keep hearing a lot about Buster Davis in the camp clippings. He also looked pretty aggressive in the game. Sounds like he's getting in on a lot of big hits and even sparked a fight between the offense and defense today.
Didn't he basically get cut from Arizona due to his apathetic approach to practice?
It would be really nice if we poached someone elses 1st day pick and turned them into a competitor for a change.

Buster Davis probably didn't embrace the Cardinals defensive scheme as it probably was asking him to go outside his comfort level.
BD is about running around sideline to sideline making tackles. He is in a scheme that fits his talents for sure.

I think our best LB unit in the scheme we run is Davis,Dizon and Sims on the field at the same time. Align them however the Fukk you want I say. Thats three LBs that are great at chasing down ballcarriers and are fast enough to cover. Thats what we need from our LBs. They can all tackle too. Lenon's value is his versatility to play all 3 positions. He's not an impact player, but he's a perfect 4th LBer.Anyways, I hope we don't leave Davis on the bench just because he's labeled as a MLB. If Dizon keeps his head on straight our LBs could be sick.

I think we're in trouble if we need Buster Davis to play a lot. He's an average LB at best from what I've seen...his size limits him.

He was #2 at MLB all through pre season, playing ahead of Dizon in every game. Then he was cut because he can only play MLB...
Why not give the rookie the PT in preseason then?
I alo thought they would have a tough time deciding who to cut between Standeford and Middleton, with Standeford looking better at WR, but Middleton being a better returner. They only kept 4 WR's. Tatum Bell looked like crap in preseason when he was in a roster battle, and was outperformed by IMO every back on the roster, but he was 1 of only 2 RB's they kept. Cherilous is backing up both LT and RT, so they decided to cut Jonathon Scott, which means if Gosder did get the start at RT eventually we don't have a back-up LT. Are they planning for our first round pick to sit the bench all season? 5 TE's and a FB, 5 DE's and 6 DT's but only 4 WR's and 2 HB's? I guess I don't understand the Lions.

I'm definitely confused by some of the moves. I understand why they kept 6 DTs, as Cohen would not have made it on to our PS before being claimed, but they are hurting for depth at WR and RB and need to do something soon. 5 TEs?? Are you kidding me? I just can't believe it. I really wish they would have cut 2 TEs, kept Middleton and either Buster Davis or Canon, who I feel have good value to us, even as backups and especially on STs. I also hope they sign Rudi Johnson or someone of the like.

I definitely think the Lions are in the market for more players. However they are very limited by their salary cap this season and needed to cut some guys to create some cap space in order to be able to pick up some cut players. Who knows what Millen's plan is, I'm sure he doesn't but he did create some cap space by cutting 2nd and 3rd year players who simply cost more to keep than a rookie and simply have a limited future in the NFL even though a lot of our fans overrated them.

I thought that things were gonna change and they already have.
http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/08/31/lion...aim-rb-thomas/
FB/TE McHugh got cut and we got another rookie RB Thomas on waivers. Roster looks a little more balanced now with 3 RBs and 4 TEs, which is still one too many TEs. They need to decide about Campbell.
I think Nece is an upgrade to Cannon and will probably start for us at SLB. Cannon got released to make room.
11 D-liners is a luxery. Will see how it plays out. I'm not mourning the loss of Buster Davies hardly at all. You are gonna have to cut "good" players to get down to the 53 man roster.

Not sure it will happen but I think we are going after Rudi Johnson hard, just not sure we have the cap space to sign him unless we cut another starter.
