We have a lot of conversation about how this year's team may be/is the deepest any of us can think of. That, plus the wave of mock drafts got me thinking about something we could do while football is still in the (relative) doldrums.

A mock draft to build a Seahawks team based on individual team years.

For example, let's say we divide the team up into QBs, RBs, WRs, TEs, OTs, OGs, Cs, DEs, DTs, OLBs, ILBs, CBs, Ss, Ks, Ps, KRs, PRs, and let's say 5 of us decide to participate.

Guy 1 might draft 2005 OTs to get Big Walt in his prime (plus Locklear and whatever backups that team had)

Guy 2 might draft 2007 QBs to get that year's verison of Hass

Guy 3 might draft 1998 DEs to get McCrary and Sinclair

etc. etc.

In the end we construct a 53-man roster out of our drafts and argue over who's team is the best.

I'm not sure the best way to break units down (maybe just an OL slot instead of OTs, OGs, Cs?) but I think it would be fun.

Anyone interested?

Defensive line

Locks
DE Avril, Bryant, Bennett, Irvin,
DT Mebane

Fighting It Out
DE Clemons, Scruggs (one spot)
DT Hill, Williams, Howard, McDonald, McDaniel (three spots)

that log jam at DT is going to be the most interesting battle in camp. I've got to think the two rookies have an inside track, leaving Howard, and the two Irishmen to battle it out for one spot.

Other interesting battles

CB Lane, III, Maxwell and Simon competing for two spots
WR Harper going up against Bates, Kearse, Wlliams for one or maybe two spots
OG McQ, Sweezy, Moffitt and Carp with probably all make the team, but in what order?

So I think we all know that many of our draft picks, perhaps even a majority of them, will not be making the team come September. So what players do you see actually making the team? I'm going to leave the UDFAs alone because I think they are all a crap shoot this year and unlikely to make the team but if you feel one of them will make the team feel free to mention them.

Here are the draft picks...

Christine Michael	RB	Texas A&M
Jordan Hill	        DT	Penn State
Chris Harper	WR	Kansas State
Jesse Williams	DT	Alabama
Tharold Simon	DB	Louisiana State
Luke Willson	TE	Rice
Spencer Ware	RB	Louisiana State
Ryan Seymour	 G	Vanderbilt
Ty Powell	        DE    Harding
Jared Smith	DT	New Hampshire
Michael Bowie T	NE Oklahoma State

I doubt any of the 7th rounders make the team. If I had to guess I would say that Powell has the best chance but I'm guessing he makes the PS at best.

I also have a feeling that Willson doesn't make the cut.

I think Spencer Ware will make the team as MRob's heir apparent.

I'm hopeful that the originator of the 2013 draft thread isn't annoyed about this new thread I just didn't think people would want to wade through 12 pages to get to the present discussion but if it's a problem one of our fearless mods can shut this thread down as a duplicate.

I'll post each of the picks here as quickly as I am able after the picks are made.

Once the draft starts it might be fun for us all to disclose our lists of players we think might have been a fit for the Seahawks by round, that is if you have such a list. This might raise an active discussion until the team actually picks again

Sorry for getting this up late. With five days to go, it's time to get the yearly contest underway. AnnArborHawk was last year's winner, scoring 55 points by correctly predicting that the Seahawks would draft Robert Turbin (in the exact slot they did select him), as well as Russell Wilson.

Here are the slots the Seahawks are drafting in this year:

2(56):
3(87):
4(123):
5(138):
5(158):
6(194):
7(220):
7(231):
7(241):
7(242):

Here's the scoring format. It's the same we've used in past years, with one change, and as always, I'm open to suggestions on it:

Right Player, Right Slot: 35 points
Example: I say that we draft Quentin Patton at 2(56), and it happens. I get 35 points. This only happened once last year, although that's looking like a bit of an anomaly as there are traditionally a good amount of these. Note: if we trade from the slot and take the projected player with that pick, you still get the full 35 points.

Right Player, Wrong Slot: 20 points
Example: I say that we draft Leon McFadden at 4(123), and we select him at 5(138). I get 20 points. This happened six times last year.

Right Position, Right Slot, but Wrong Player: 10 points
Example: I say that we draft Tyler Bray at 4(123), and at 4(104) we draft Landry Jones. They both play quarterback, so I get 10 points.

I am going to use the following positions: QB, RB, FB, WR, OT, OG, OC, TE, DE, DT, OLB, MLB, S, CB, P, PK. There isn't any need to distinguish between free safety and strong safety since they are interchangable in a lot of defenses.

If a guy is a tweener who is projected at two positions, pick one position or the other. If you get the guy right, youll get the 35 points anyway. Otherwise, whether or not you get positional points depends on if what position you chose for that guy. Example: John Simon is projected at DE/OLB. I write "John Simon, OLB, Ohio State". We select William Gholston, DE, Michigan State with that pick. I do not get the positional points because I listed Simon as an OLB. If I had listed him as a DE, I would get the points. The obvious strategy with that is to pick the position you think we would more likely address out of those two if the team does not select the player you chose.

Correct Trade Predicted: 15 point bonus
Incorrect Trade Predicted: Minus 3 points

Trades: This is the part that makes this really really difficult. In the past, we used the above model and it has worked well. If you predict the wrong team or compensation, you will not lose points. It is way too hard to predict that kind of thing. If you say we will trade up with the 2(56) pick and we do, you get 15 points, no matter who you said we would trade up with.

Tiebreaker rule: if two or more people tie for first place, the tiebreaker will go to the person who had a perfect pick that was latest in the draft (a 35 point type). If it's still tied, it'll go to the person who had the latest right player, wrong slot pick (20 point type).

The deadline for contest entries is the beginning of the draft (7:00pm Eastern Time). You can edit your entry any time before then. KFFL tells what time posts were edited, so there shouldn’t be any problem there. Any entry that is edited after the deadline is automatically disqualified, even if that person says they were changing something else.

Previous Winners
2003: McGruffHawk
2004: Anointed One
2005: JMR
2006: Anointed One and MKHawk
2007: jammer
2008: SilverSeahawk
2009: McGruffHawk
2010: McGruffHawk and AnnArborHawk
2011: jammer
2012: AnnArborHawk

For how many posters compete in this every year, we have had surprisingly little variety in who wins. Some of you need to step up one of these years!
