We've all had a few days to digest the recent draft... which is a good thing. Snap analysis of something like this is almost never worthwhile.

And, of course, it needs to be said: this is the NFL Draft we are talking about and you really can't judge this thing until multiple years down the road.

But it's still fun for us fans to talk about it. :tiny: So, what are everyone's early thoughts?

-----------

A nice, little draft. I say 'little' because there wasn't a lot of sizzle or "sexy" in these picks... but a couple of big needs were addressed by solid, ready-made players.

- The selection of Justin Pugh helps to fill the biggest need on our team: the offensive line. Our line is aging and is definitely showing the signs of it: lots of little injuries in this area last season. We needed new blood here in a bad way. Maybe Pugh was selected a half round early... but I think the Giants played their draft position the best they could play it. Pugh might not have lasted even one more pick (Chicago took OL right after us) and no one of the same ability would have been there for the Giants in the 2nd. So Reese and co did what they had to do.

As far as the player goes... Pugh looks like a natural athlete with impressive movement skills and coordination. He really pops out and seems special in these regards. I look forward to plugging him in and watching him develop...

- DT Johnathan Hankins is an impressive specimen who really looks the part of a run plugging, interior lineman. In watching some of his highlights... he also stood out as an impressive athlete for his size. The knock on Hankins has been conditioning/effort... but the fact of the matter is he played a ton of snaps on a per game basis, and those who follow him most have testified that hustle/desire are not a problem for Hankins when he isn't gassed.

Hankins should help fill a large void in what had been one of the worst run defenses in football last season.

- DE Damontre Moore is a very talented, very productive pass rusher from a big SEC school. So why is he getting drafted in the middle of the 3rd round, you might ask? Character concerns along the line of: not a hard worker off the field, has been able to skate by on natural ability until this point, and he enjoys the party scene a little too much. So... seems like a classic 'boom or bust' type of guy. The 3rd round seems like a good place to take a shot like this...

I like that no one questions Moore's play or heart on the field. So at least we know that his head is in the right place come game time. The rest will be up to Moore and how he matures as a person and as a professional...

- QB Ryan Nassib seems like a solid, developmental choice in the 4th round. I hadn't really thought about it... but Eli is into his early 30's. It's a good idea to be grooming a young talent with potential...

May Nassib fare better than Rhett Bomar... and may Nassib never see the field in any meaningful moment for at least the next 4 seasons. :tiny:

- SS/LB Cooper Taylor is an interesting athlete: a plus sized safety who really moves well for his size. Little known because of rare medical condition involving his heart which forced him to transfer away from Georgia Tech. Let's see how he develops...

Could be an asset down the road matching up against modern TE's...

- OG Eric Herman is big, mauling RG type. Watching his combine workout, I was discouraged to see how plodding Herman appeared to be, especially when changing direction. He seemed to really lack suddenness... in my amateur opinion, anyways.

But maybe he can develop into a technician and hide this flaw... a RG doesn't necessarily have to be an elite athlete. Let's groom him behind Snee and see how it goes...

- RB Michael Cox was one of the last picks in the draft, and after briefly researching him he doesn't stand out to me as special in any way. But who knows?... my expectations are low, though.

He's in blue so I'll be rooting for him...

------------

Now let's get Victor Cruz signed to a long term contract and be ready to compete for another Championship! :afro:

What does everyone else think?
