We've generally stuck to all time deals, so i'm ready to switch it up and go with an active baseball draft.

The interesting thing about baseball is there really are 2 pieces to building a great organization, and that's the MLB club, but also the minor league system. Football doesn't have this, basketball is basically non existent, and while hockey does have AHL and Canadien Jr leagues, it's not near as deep as baseball. I want to run sims with the rosters we draft starting next spring with the updated 2013 rosters. So there is no huge rush. I will use the Diamond Mind Baseball sim to run leagues starting in 2014.

We've got 20+ rounds to go in the other draft, so i don't want to take away from that with time constraints or deadlines. This draft will start off with no clock and casually go on it's course, until the other draft is over, in which case this will pick up.

Anyway, here are the rules i had in mind.

1. ACTIVE PLAYER DRAFT. Any player that is active on MLB roster or drafted this year (or past) may be selected.

2. 25 Man MLB roster (14 positional players/5 SP/6RP)

3. 11 Man Minor League roster (8 positional players/3 P)

4. Major League requirements.

130 AB's/50 IP/45 days on active roster.

Any player that meets these numbers as of July 18th 2013 CANNOT be placed on your minor league roster. However, players that are currently playing at the MLB level and under those numbers can be on either. If they have no time up at the MLB level they must be placed in the minors to start.

5. Players may play any position that they have started 50 games or more at. Use Pro baseball reference as we are doing in the other draft. Rookie players this season with fewer than 50 games as of now can be played at whatever position they have the most starts at.

6. No Time Clock to start

7. PM's are important. Send a notice to the next person after you pick.

8. Proxy lists are also important. Send them in if you won't be around.

9. Trading WILL be allowed, but after the draft closes.

Baseball = To start a player at any position on the field, they must have started at least one year there (cumulative 162 games). OF must be placed in the position they played per Pro Baseball Reference. For instance, if player A started 1000 games at CF but only 102 games at RF, they may only be drafted as a CF. As long as a player has started 162 games or more at a spot, they CAN play there. No DH.

Ty Cobb example.

He is eligible for both CF and RF due to # of games started at each position. As long as a player has started 162 games or more, OVER THE COURSE OF HIS CAREER, he can play that spot.

I got my hands on a good baseball sim and Goose has said we can use his spreadsheets. He also said that he could run the sims as we've done in the past. I've had trouble locating a good relatively cheap hockey sim. Same thing for basketball. I don't want to draft teams if we can't accurately do some sort of Sim on the backend. I'm asking if those involved in the current City Edition would like to shut down and start over, with this condensed version. Football and Baseball only. 1. All Time Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey

2. All Football players that have started at least one season (14 games) of the SB era are eligible to be drafted (1966 to current) (Jim Brown is the exception due to his high all time ranking)

3. All NBA players must have played at least one season the NBA (All ABA players are ineligible otherwise)

4. Baseball players drafted must have played at least 1 season from 1900 to current. If you're looking at drafting a player who's last game was in 1899, he CANNOT be drafted. No Negro League players (no realiable stats for them).

5. 4 Hour Time limit to start. Can adjust as needed.

6. Draft Clock will run 10AM EST-10PM EST (off on weekends, but picks can still be made)

7. No Trading of Picks

8. Proxy lists are required if you cannot be here at least once a day between 10AM-10PM EST, excluding weekends.

10. Roster Sizes:

Basketball = 8 total (5 starters/3 bench)
Baseball = 25 total (14 postional players/5 SP/5 RP/1CL)
Football = 32 total (1 QB-2RB-3WR-1TE-6OL-4DL-4LB-6DB-1K-1P-3 free spots)
Hockey = 19 total (4 Centers/8 Wingers/6 defense/1 goalie)

11. Positional Requirements: (reference Pro Football/Baseball/Basketball Reference for this)

Basketball = Players must have started at least 1 season at the position you are drafting them to
Baseball = Same thing as Basketball. To start a player at 3B, they must have at least one year there. OF may be switched to any of the 3 positions regardless of games played. That is the only position you may interchange. DH is allowed.
Football = Again, same as the above.
Hockey = Use Pro hockey reference or wiki for positional choices. Wingers may be used on either the left or right side.

12. Drafting players based on careers, not a single season or period.

13. No Injuries if we continue on to Sim leagues. Let the best players decide the outcomes.

14. If you draft a multi sport athlete, you may use them across 2 sports. However, they MUST have played at least one full season in 2 sports to be elibigle in more than one.
