OK, big point of contention in our household: white lights or color lights on the tree. I prefer multi-color. Where do you stand?

Mulit color. White lights are too freaking boring.

I've always been a big fan of the classic look on the outside of the house: white candles in the window, white lights on the house. Even in our crappy townhouse I did it that way, looks way better now that we have a house fitting of the classic look.

Wife always liked colored lights on the tree so that's ok although I still like white.

You gotta have multi-color. And i'm not talking those little ones either, the big bulbs. White puts me to sleep faster than Thanksgiving dinner.

Yuck... those big colored bulbs are horrible.

Sign me up for the white lights. You bring in the color with the other decorations on the tree.

Colored when I have a tree.

Last 2 tree lights were strings of Red, White and Blue wrapped together.

Before that......buncha colors with many flashing options. And of course no flash after I have my seizure.

I'm in for the multi-color lights. I don't like the "classic" look in my house. The day my wife sits there for hours carefully making sure that everything matches the decor and that all of the ornaments are just so is the day that I put on a sleeveless t-shirt, start growing a mullet, drinking PBR at 9am, and calling her my "hot mama" in protest.

I want to see some blinking colored lights and a tree with ornaments that Martha Stewart would think were awful. I want stuff on my tree with a story attached to it ("remember when we were moving and you dropped the box or ornaments and this is the only one that made it?") or that my son made in pre-school. I want a bunch of hand-wrapped presents under the tree that have entirely to much damned tape on them and the corners aren't quite right. I want the tags that say "To: Daddy" to be written in my 4 year old's hand.

I want a family Christmas, not some "Better and Homes & Gardens" misguided notion of seasonal decorating perfection.

Different colors, different types (C7, mini, bubble, and whatever else is available). Make 'em flash, and create a homey little light show.

That's beautiful, man. *sniffle*

I do a combo ... I put white lights on the whole tree that stay solid, and then I have a string of colored lights on the whole tree that blink in time to music. The string of white lights is wound a little tighter around the 'inside' of the tree and the colored string is wrapped closer to the outside of the tree.

You speak the truth.

I hate the trees with the single colored lights and a color scheme. The bowes, the lights and the topper all match. What a pile of crap.

Multi colored but it's not a big deal to me.

I run my lights off my gas powered generator in the garage.

Multi color, big beautiful bulbs. Oh, and don't forget the tinsel and plastic tree.

Dang, be right back. Gotta put my sock in the dryer, and wash my dishtowel.

If I bothered with a Christmas tree, multicolored. If it's good enough for the rest of my family, I can at least tolerate it.

But this brings up my favorite Christmas poem:

Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the house,
Everybody was stirring,
Calling Santa a louse.

The elves shouted "Union!"
And formed picket lines
With rude words to Santa
Scrawled on their signs.

Mrs. Claus had left hubby
A note on the phone:
"I am off to Bermuda--
And I won't be alone!"

And the worst part of all
(He suspected a trick)
Was that Santa's eight reindeer
Had all called in sick.

Yes, Christmas was here,
And Santa was irked.
He felt used, abused
And much overworked.

Then an angel came in,
Quite innocently,
And the poor thing asked Santa,
"Where should I stick the tree?"

And that's why angels sit on top of Christmas trees.

Both. Put white lights deep inside the tree and colored ones close to the outside of the tree, but inside enough that they're concealed by branches.

I find when the whole friggin' neighborhood has white lights outside the house , it's pretty friggin' boring.

Yeah, year 1 and 2 maybe cool....but by year 5, 6, 7....geeze - where's the self expression?

(I know..we're discussing the tree).

The self expression goes both with the tree and with the outside display. I try to never do the same thing twice...in both places.

I like you too much to play with that line :)

I'm a mulit-colored tree bulber. And I don't over-do-it with the garland or the icicles. But I like to visit friends and see how people do it differently. My tree is not the best I've ever seen.

I don't like it when colors mix.

How the hell did this sneak though  :D

My family has always celebrated the holiday season with a collage of black, white and yellow lights.

We do multi on the tree itself. I have a lot of cool glass and disco ball ornaments that reflect the light well. However, I am straight white lights outside. With the candals in the window. Our tree is visible from the street, so it really stands out by having the white outside. But that is just how we like it.

P.S. Boozer, you smell funny.

Hmmmmm... I guess great minds think alike. LOL!!!

One of the frats on campus, uses Christmas lights to create a large Flying Elvis on their roof, and added a "Boston B" this year.

Conversely, when every house in the whole friggin' neighborhood is using enough electricity to power Romania for a year, it's kinda crossed the line from self-expression to self-indulgence.

Yoko and I, are on the same page with this one.

The kids wanted color and momma wanted white. Instead of telling Momma that the kids win because xmas is about them, I opted to put 3 strings of white spiraling up one direction and 3 strings of multi spiraling up the other direction. It looks amazing (even though my wife is still complaining!).

Try the combo route!

Single color lights in our house, but different colors every year. This year is a blue year, last year was Red. We used to have purple but I thought that they looked pink and something mysteriously happened to them :D . My wife still has no clue.
